I just noticed that Baby Formula is locked up in the supermarkets

Posted on 03/16/2019 2:08:07 PM PDT by SamAdams76

It's been a while since I had babies to deal with. However, I was in the super-market today checking out when I saw a locked case of baby formula in the front of the store.

Baby formula. Locked up. Why?

I was thinking maybe somebody out there knows why that is so.

funny you wrote that. A few years ago I bought a cheap coffee maker for like $20 and as I exited Walmart the beeper went off. I showed my receipt and went on my way. When I got home and opened it it had about 100 5pks of quatro razor blades worth about $2000. I called Walmart but they seemed disinterested that they had a theft problem somewhere in their organization. So I told my son well then F them I’ll keep them and but another coffee maker.

>>>The new WalMart, outside of town, has virtually nothing locked up<<<

Don’t worry, they’ll wise up before you know it.

The BABY FORMULA is a closely guarded secret.

Making babies is not an easy task. They must be spec’ed out, designed, materials ordered and delivered, and finally assembled. The formula to make a baby is complex.

So therefore, the secret formula is well protected.

For some strange reason baby formula is extremely attractive to thieves who resell it at flea markets, etc.
Exactly. Many popular theft items are marked "This item is for sale at Such-n-Such only." You'll often see this at dollar stores and chain pharmacies. The stolen items show up at flea markets frequented by immigrants. When living in Chicago, my bike was stolen. A neighbor said to look for it at a local weekend flea market popular with Mexicans. There were countless stories of yuppies' bikes turning up at a particular bikeseller's stall. When asked about the obviously stolen bikes, the merchant would be unable to speak a word of English.

I think part of the problem is the babies don’t know they are supposed to pay for it, they just think you go to the store and take what you want. No concept of money.

Tide's protecting their brand. Last recession, they reformulated a Tide-lite version so as not to "cheapen" the brand by dropping the price.

Never thought it'd make its way to the da 'hood corner, monetized.

Formula is not locked up at my local markets. It probably depends upon the propensity of the items for theft.

Haven’t read the responses yet, but there is a scam associated with baby formula and I believe WIC or food stamps. People attempting product exchanges without receipts to get the cash value. I guess the grocers got wise to it.

Won’t do them any good to “wise up”.

Bus fare that far out is too pricey and they’re sure not gonna walk.

:)

Pretty soon, we're going to move to a model where they lock the store instead.

One day, we'll all have to prepay a base amount just to enter the store, and then when we check out at the register they will credit against the prepay and refund the excess back to the card or ask to pay the difference at the register.

Minimum $50 to enter the store. EBT cards accepted. No more shoplifting.

Which means that a lot of WIC money goes to buy drugs.

"one armed guard hanging around out in front"

Good for them, hiring disabled folks.

Another big one is TIDE detergent —don’t ask my why.

The Walgreens by me in a suburb of Minneapolis has the Tide Pods in plastic security boxes.

Illegal aliens and welfare queens pump out lots of babies so formula is in high demand and has a high potential for theft.

BTW, diversity is another reason why every toy you buy today takes an hour or so to cut out of it’s package. If it wasn’t, the toy would be stolen right out of the box and/or mom’s would just let their out of controls kid take it out and play with it right in the store.

This started years ago. The baby formula was one of the most stolen items in grocery stores. You rip off a couple of bottles of similac and you can sell them for enough cash for a fix.

It is a said testament of the state of our world.

Oh! And they always had one armed guard hanging around out in front.
I heard that is common in Mexico, too, WHICH SHOULD TELL YOU SOMETHING.

That’s how it is in Costa Rican banks. Armed guard outside who lets you in—only so many customers allowed in the bank at one time. Armed guard inside the bank, watching everyone. Don’t know how many successful bank robberies they have, but they do let you know, they take money very seriously.
