Really? This guy was actually a candidate? Who knew? – You will all no doubt be highly saddened to know that Richard Ojeda has dropped out of the race for the 2020 Democrat Party’s presidential nomination.
I can hear the gears clinking furiously in minds everywhere out there, as you take to Google to figure out just who in the hell is Richard Ojeda? So, let me tell you: He’s a state senator from West Virginia. I have no earthly idea when he announced he was running, but on Friday he announced he wasn’t, and that actually made news for some reason.
The candidate no one had ever heard of said that, although “The indications were very positive from an overwhelming response to our videos, to thousands of volunteers, and a level of grassroots fundraising support that grew every day,” he doesn’t “want to see people send money to a campaign that’s probably not going to get off the ground.”
Oh. Ok. Adios, dude.
In other, real news… – The Commie’s in! Yes, friends and enemies, Bernie Sanders is going to be providing more Soviet-style gruel for the leftist masses for the next two years, as expected. Yahoo News reports that he will formally announce his bid just as soon as he can use other people’s money to rent a room at some Washington, DC hotel.
Awesome. The 2020 campaign just wouldn’t have been the same without this grifting lunatic weaving his envy-based fantasies for all the college students to soak in.
Why can’t people listen anymore? – I’ve always marveled at the inability of the leftist mind to listen and absorb what is actually being said in a speech. Sadly, this same lack of attention span appears to have now afflicted many on the right as well.
Yesterday, President Trump gave a speech that lasted about 20 minutes or so, in which he announced that he had reached an agreement with congressional “leaders” to re-open the semi-closed government and get all the federal employees paid via a three-week continuing resolution (CR). That part of the speech consumed about one of the twenty minutes.
Those who actually listened to the speech in its entirety and absorbed what was actually said heard the President spend the other 19 minutes of it making making the case for why the current situation along our Southern border constitutes a true national emergency, and why the building of a wall is necessary to relieve it. Mr. Trump further promised that, if congress has failed to allocate his requested $5.7 billion in wall and border security funding at the end of the 21-day period of the CR, he will use his authority to issue an executive order declaring a national emergency and use funds his staff has already identified in the defense budget to immediately begin adding to the 630 miles of border wall that already exist.
Oddly, the only part of the speech most Trump “supporters” apparently heard was the deal on the CR. Despite the reality that Donald Trump is the first President since Ronald Reagan who has kept promise after promise after promise, the backlash among his supposed supporters on social media was immediate and harsh. Twitter was immediately filled with the wailings of thousands of Trumpians accusing the President of “caving” and whining that his presidency is now somehow over.
For those still clinging to that notion this morning, let me try to explain what really happened on Friday:
President Trump acted to ensure employees in the Coast Guard and Department of Homeland Security did not miss a second paycheck, and to ensure the flight disruptions that were taking place as several airports due to lack of personnel did not spread across the country and begin harming the overall economy; and The President put the onus on congressional Democrats to either negotiate a deal on border security or deal with the reality of a national emergency declaration. Seeing all the uproar taking place, the President tried to calm the waters with the following tweet:

And what happened with every single one of his EOs that has any relationship to immigration and border security? You know the answer to that as well as I do. The courts won’t even let him expire the dreamer act even though it has an expiration date BUILT in it. You really think they’re gonna let him declare a state of emergency that last multiple years to get that wall built?! Really? I knew when he announced it on the campaign trail it wouldn’t happen. Nice try, good on him, really gave it a go. But the end was inevitable.
Never Trumpers don’t want him to succeed, and many otherwise “supporters” do not have the testicular fortitude to fight to the end. In the grand scheme of things, the President has shown great patience and calmness (the opposite of the chaos purportedly taking place) and will act at the end of 21 days to build the wall. 21days is a microcosm compared to the 25-30 years this can has been kicked down the road. He now has the high ground and the ball is in Congress’ court...let’s see if they can make it happen. If not, it’s a simple solution already proposed by Trump and it’s on to the next issue....and all the pearl clutchers will be back on board.

Why say junk like Trump has caved or is toast or he isn’t going to build the walk?

If he fails to build the wall you can always vote for one of the dozens of dims that our running for president.
TheDems can’t tie up the national emergency in the courts...they don’t have standing. How are they “harmed”? Sure, they can sue, but it will be dismissed and the wall will be built. I believe the Dems will wait it out to see if he really declares the emergency then will negotiate.
You obviously haven’t been paying attention to what the courts have been doing with his border and immigration orders. They’ve dumped all of them. In a world of logic and real laws you would be right. But this is America, the courts will stop him even though they have no logical reason to and doing is so would be a gross miscarriage.
You normally are a sensible poster with good ideas about a lot of things.
So, forget Chuck and Nancy, the Democrats, the media, and all that other crap.
The government was funded, without a wall, after Mike Pence met with the GOP Senate caucus. Word on the street is that emotions were running high at that meeting, and that Pence got an earful.
So, since that meeting is probably the key to decipher what is going on and what is going to happen, what message do you think McConnell delivered to Pence?

I agree. There is only one single individual in all of Washington DC that wants a wall and that individual is President Trump. And I'm not so sure he wants it that much anymore except that he has made it the be-all end-all of his presidential ambitions and he knows he has to deliver something. The wall has become Trump's white whale and the Democrats are going to beat him over the head with it come campaign time. It'll be his "read my lips" moment. "You promised a wall and you failed!"
I think President Trump needs to pivot away from "The Wall" and talk instead about money for border security that can be spent in whatever manner the people he has placed in charge of securing the border deem fit.
If they want a wall, they get a wall. If they want steel slats, they get steel slats. If they want drones, they get drones. If they want more agents on the ground, better vehicles, sharks with lasers on their heads, they'll get it. This way, the Democrats have to focus their opposition away from the President and the symbolism of "Trump's Wall" and on to the subject matter experts who are faced with the direct, day-to-day task of securing the border.
The shutdown was a disaster of Republican incompetence and Pelosi is justifiably gloating. He needs to put this behind him and move forward.
IF it goes to the courts, it will get to SCOTUS and it will be dismissed as there’s no harm to anyone, with the exception of landowners who stand to lose property through eminent domain. There is much legislative deference given to the President when it comes declaring national emergencies...not that I favor that, personally, but it is true.
Great article - won’t stop the snowflake concern trolls among us from looking for a way to give up while President Trump fights for us...they remind me of all the welfare babies who stamp their feet and demand they be given what they want and without delay....while they claim to be patriotic conservatives....playing Risk on a board and being in the midst of a battle are two different things but they seem to think they know a lot that they don’t - like Reagan said of liberals, “They aren’t ignorant, they just know a lot that isn’t true”...fits some of the pathetic folks we have polluting FR these days...hope they can see fit to hit the occasional donate buttons so they aren’t totally useless.
Nothing goes straight to SCOTUS, and if you still have any confidence in the Roberts court you’re down right crazy.
It’s really easy. The fact it hasn’t been done tells you the GOP and the Dems love illegal immigration.
Read my first line, again. IF it goes to the courts, it will GET to SCOTUS. This is clearly the prerogative of the President. SCOTUS, even with Roberts, will dismiss.
The wall gets built under one condition. RBG dying. It will have to get built under the emergency condition and the only way it will pass the muster of the Court of Supreme Whim is if that crusty collectivist is no longer in the way.
I’m with Blackmon. I believe Trump is building a case for going it alone on an EO.

At some point most of it will happen but that may be years into the future.
Major things happen in time with many bits and pieces. Think of a major
US Interstate highway across the country. It is done in pieces across many
counties and states all with differing rules and regulations. Same will be true
for the wall.
