By ALEX ISENSTADT 01/18/2019 05:04 AM EST Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Republican Gov. Larry Hogan is acting a lot like a guy who wants to run against Donald Trump in 2020 and the president's reelection team is taking notice.
The second-term Maryland governor has been implicitly going after Trump in speeches, meeting with Never Trump Republicans, and planning a March trip to Iowa as vice chair of the National Governors Association.
Its all fueling speculation that Hogan, a 62-year-old cancer survivor who coasted to reelection in liberal Maryland and remains one of the most popular governors in the country, is open to the prospect of a long-shot primary challenge to the incumbent president. His flirtation comes at a time when Trump is facing increasing blowback over his handling of the protracted government shutdown and bracing for a potentially devastating report by special counsel Robert Mueller.
Hogan used his inaugural address on Wednesday to repudiate the debilitating politics of Washington and to raise the specter of impeachment. He recalled how his father, former Rep. Lawrence Hogan, was the first Republican congressman to support the removal of Richard Nixon.
The governor didnt utter Trumps name, but the implication was clear.
Despite tremendous political pressure, he put aside partisanship and answered the demands of his conscience to do what he thought was the right thing for the nation that he loved, Hogan said of his late father.

Haley said in the WH when it was announced she was leaving said she would be supporting Trump for reelection if Trump runs.
Larry Hogan, now there’s a name everyone will recognize.
The delusion runs high in that guy.
Maryland’s version of Egg Mcmuffin.

*Because two RINOs in magic underwear are better than one.
Idiot!
Frankly, we have enough to worry about today. Two years of unprecedented control of all three branches and the Republicans blew it.
Now this President and a few loyalists is all we have to fight the clock and set some things right before it’s too late.
Hogan is a hero for conservatives in MD. Major conservative backers in MD do not, however, understand his opposition to Trump. It is an aberration. If he tries to primary Trump his popularity in MD will nose dive. He will lose the financial and organizational support that won him the governorship.
Hogan thinks that moderates and even some Democrats will love him for it.
He couldn’t be more wrong.
LOL
Yes she would. She’s a neverTrumper skank backed by the likes of Billy Kristol.
Idiot won’t even get the 4 delegates that Yeb! got.
Oh, yeah, he’ll attract some republicans, about enough to form a carioca band.
What a jerk and he will find out soon enough how popular he will be with us.

The republicans did not blow it. They did exactly as their uniparty masters told them to do.
Exactly... Larry who?
He’s a RINO Never-Trumper with the personality of a tick.
This guy, who nobody seems to know, appears to be doing a reasonably good job in MD. Only because no one has heard about ANYTHING he has done.
Why would he ruin his career and life by going after a very popular President in the republican party.
President Trump is breaking records with his popularity in the party and along comes Forest Gump with dreams of grandeur just asking to be made of fool by an expert.
Talk about masochist.
Exactly. Maybe 5% of Democrats, 30% of moderates and 30% of republicans, tops.
