A BOTTLE containing a mystery liquid dating back to the time of Jesus Christ has been hailed as a unique discovery after being unearthed in Russia.
The 2,000-year-old artefact was uncovered on the site of the Phanagoria city, which was founded in the 6th century BC.
The ancient city was the largest Greek settlement on the Taman peninsula in the present-day Krasnodar Krai region of Russia.

Ping to the ancient quaff !
Vodka no doubt
Whatever it is, obviously no longer usable.
I suppose the contents could be analyzed for ingredients.
The warrior had a phobia about being buried alive and having to pee really bad, but having nowhere to do it. So they buried him with the bottle?
I didn’t know they made class containers 2000 years ago.
Wonder how much the grant will be??

Geraldo Rivera, where are you?
Yikes!
A distilled spirit of that potency from that long ago could rewrite the history of distillation.

Dirty water for sure!
Maybe it's sea water.
I have a glass whiskey flask that I found out in the desert east of Carson City, NV that probably was made in the 1800’s during the gold rush. The neck was made separately from the bottle and the bottle body was made from 2 halves which were fused together with liquid glass and the neck was attached the same way....which makes me curious about how they made a glass bottle 2,000 years ago....
