The Glock 19X has received a lot of hate from the concealed carry community who wanted a Glock 17 slide on a Glock 19 frame.
My guess is that they may have their wish later on, but for now, the 19X is a problem solver for a different customer.
Daniel Shaw of GunMag Warehouse discuss with Jeremy Strafford of Guns & Ammo Magazine about this hate. The focus of the conversation is really about who this gun was design for.
For starters there isn't any problem with the 19X according to Jeremy. (who is also an LE officer) Even though this gun is open to the public market. This gun actually caters to those that carry a pistol on a daily basis as part of a job description like police or military.
The hate coming from the internet are people that dont fully understand its purpose. This 19X was not design to be a concealed carry but for open carry.
There is a reason why this modular platform (19X) was built with a full size hand grip and a shortened barrel/slide.
They needed the 17 round extra capacity.
The shorten barrel is due to the environment that are used in confine spaces. Where you need to pull it out from your armor.
Having a full size barrel on it can be bulky.
Sorry back to the story, the 19X is well suited if youre in an armored vehicle, patrol car, amphibious assault v and helicopter.
With the shortened barrel, youre not losing much velocity.
Another complaint on the internet is that there isnt an external safety. There isnt much to say, most experienced shooters in the real-world of LE and military will attest their finger is the safety, especially for a striker-fire pistol.
Anyways, this is a very opinionated subject, what do you all think? See the full footage of Glock 19X hater here.
My only gripe about the g19 is the mags aren’t interchangeable with my 34 and 17. The 19x fixes that.
So Glock copied the SIG P320 Carry?
But it doesn’t.
It’s called a G19X but it doesn’t take G19 mags. WTF is up with that? It’s just a G17 with a shorter slide. Oh, and it doesn’t take ALL G17 mags, because the stoopid thing on the frontstrap prevents extended or enlarged baseplates.
There have always been G17 mags available, and Glock was wise to make the longer mags interchangeable downward along all double-stack lines. I have four G19s and a stack of 15,17 and 21rnd mags that all work fine.
The Sig P365 is going to eat Glock’s lunch in the concealed carry market.
Because The Internet has become self-aware and doesn't want people owning guns that they could use against it.
I’m no Glock expert but something sounds backwards to me.
Isn’t the 17 the ‘full size’ 9mm and the 19 the ‘compact short slide & shorted, reduced capacity handgrip’ model??
Therefore wouldn’t this be a 17 frame with a 19 slide and not the other way around as described in the article?
That looks extremely painful.
Wait. He did it on purpose?: http://www.wideopenspaces.com/graphic-stupid-guy-thought-steel-toed-boot-would-stop-a-45-bullet/
For me, it wouldn’t work, but I get why the design works for the LEOs.
The advantage being larger capacity with a shorter barrel to make clearing body armor easier.
I AM a Glock fan and all I want to see them make next is a 9mm carbine. For twenty years of wanting and waiting and every ShotShow we are denied. Some day.
Ruger’s got you covered, their new 9mm carbine will take Glock mags...
Built in the same vein as the 1911 commander model. Fullsize grip-frame with a shortened slide for easier concealed carry. I can’t speak for others, but the G19 grip just doesn’t fit my hand (even after they removed those horrendous finger-grooves that have plagued them since the Gen 3 guns). If I liked plastic guns with a staple-gun trigger break, I’d be a buyer in a heartbeat. However, I prefer my aluminum alloy and stainless frame Sig’s with their DA/SA trigger.
So basically they made a model that Springfield has had on the market for over 5 years.

The 19X is a solution in search of a problem.
SAXD? IMHO, they are superb...
Love your tagline, BTW!
SAXD?
Yep. I have the Compact model, 3.8 inch barrel in .45 ACP. It still has the full size frame and can accept the 10 round and the 13 round magazines. Wonderful gun. I like it so much I decided on the XDS in the same caliber as a CC piece.
Best,
L
There are others, like the KelTec sub2k (had one and sold it, couldn't use stock sights) and some AR conversions (built two and really like them), but it would be great to have purpose built, all Glock model with similar performance, tolerances, reliability, weight savings, etc, as their handguns.
