Appearing on Fox News last week, actor Scott Baio explained a very important fact about President Trumps rhetorical style. In responding to attacks on the presidents tone and and general fitness for office, Baio had this to say: Im going to help the media right now, okay, Im going to try to help them
Its not going to go anywhere, but Im going to try to help them because theyve called the president, the president has dementia, hes and idiot, hes not mature
Im from Brooklyn, President Trump is from Queens. This is what we do. We mess with people. Thats it.

It's a language that bankers and lawyers understand...it's a language of working people...of people who get things done.
It's probably the language his father spoke.
Tradespeople in the tri-state area have a slightly different accent, but their manner is the same all over the country.
Blunt, can-do, kick-ass...delivered with bluster and confidence.
I suspect a major influence on his way of speaking (and even his way of being) was his time spent at the NY Military Academy.
Can you imagine how Trump would get along in the building bidness if he spoke like a Boston Brahman...from Hahhhhvaaahhd.
I say this as a former NYer--a Manhattanite with a big heart for the Outer Boroughs.
Good point - the Scots-Irish in Flyover country recognize and enjoy his style as well, despite having different accents.
This is exactly right.
Also, Trump is ENTJ from the meyers-briggs personalty profile. Imo, anyway. Google it.
I was astounded by how man INTJ types there were here. As I recall, it was either a majority or a plurality. I think there were quite a few ENTJ types as well.
It explains, in part, why there are not tens of millions of freepers. INTJ is the rarest of the 16 Meyers-Briggs types.
They tend to be great leaders, strategists, thinkers, innovators, and system builders. They concentrate on what works.
“Hallmarks of the INTJ include independence of thought and a desire for efficiency. They work best when given autonomy and creative freedom. They harbor an innate desire to express themselves by conceptualizing their own intellectual designs. They have a talent for analyzing and formulating complex theories. INTJs are generally well-suited for occupations within academia, research, consulting, management, science, engineering, and law. They are often acutely aware of their own knowledge and abilitiesas well as their limitations and what they don’t know (a quality that tends to distinguish them from INTPs). INTJs thus develop a strong confidence in their ability and talents, making them natural leaders.”
ENTJ types tend to be great leaders and enterprenuers. It fits President Trump to a T.
“If theres anything ENTJs love, its a good challenge, big or small, and they firmly believe that given enough time and resources, they can achieve any goal. This quality makes people with the ENTJ personality type brilliant entrepreneurs, and their ability to think strategically and hold a long-term focus while executing each step of their plans with determination and precision makes them powerful business leaders. This determination is often a self-fulfilling prophecy, as ENTJs push their goals through with sheer willpower where others might give up and move on, and their Extraverted (E) nature means they are likely to push everyone else right along with them, achieving spectacular results in the process.”
I ran a business where we busted on the young guys. One of them joined the Marines, and said it was all he could do not to laugh at the DI for his lame technique messing with the boots.
I served in the Marines with a lot of guys from NYC. He’s right, they do talk like that and it’s natural.
I even got to where I could tell what borough a speaker was from, and I’ve never set foot in NY, much less the city.
I still surprise folks from time to time here in Florida when I say, “What part of [Brooklyn/the Bronx/etc] are you from?”
Sometimes I’ll do it in a mock NYC accent...............
She polished her Joisy nasal tone until it was Connecticut lockjaw.
On top of that, she was attractive...and aggressive.
She covered the Connecticut tag sales market looking for overlooked and unwanted family heirlooms of great value.
She had an eye...and she would kill to get her grubby paws on the target of her affection.
She may be evil, but she is to be admired for her lethality.
She's a killer.
Ah, you want a Beta-Male who couldn't lead a column of ants to a picnic with a 5 lb. bag of sugar. If only Mitt Romney were honest!
As a citizen of the country to your North, I understand Trump’s comments. He very successfully speaks to the desires, wants, needs and fears of the common man. Too many politicians are often trained in law. Few have the ‘common touch’ and few actually care about their constituents. They often consider themselves the ‘elite’, being far above the ‘hoi polloi’ electorate. The media too, generally indoctrinated into leftist thinking by their university professors, often too, look down their noses on the ‘unwashed, uneducated masses’ of voters who would vote against socialist ideas.
Though raised with a silver spoon in his mouth, President Trump had to interact with all levels in society. First, he had to plan huge projects and present them to sophisticated investors and banks, to get required funding. Then he had to talk land owners into selling their property in order to aggregate land for projects, all the while obtaining necessary approvals, negotiating with unions (often mobbed up in NYC, supposedly), then build and market these often grandiose projects to buyers. He had to learn how to become a communicator. Though never having read it, I’m sure that ‘The Art of The Deal’ must discuss ‘communications’ in depth.
How I long for such a capable leader in this country. The last politician that was ‘a man of the people’ was Ralph Klein. Unfortunately (fortunately for him, as he came to Jesus in his later years), he has passed away and the quality of ‘leadership’ of this Country, Province and city has crashed. As a country, we are stuck with Turd-owe, a paler shade of Oboogaloo.
While there are things that I do not like about DJT, Americans should consider themselves to be blessed to have such a man as Donald J. Trump as President, especially after eight years of Oboogaloo, the socialist. They should also be especially thankful that the Grifter family did not get back into office.
Go Trump go!
Thanks for that post and the numbers.
As I recalled INTJs are a plurality here on freerepublic.
It explains why we do not have more numbers. INTJs are only 2 percent of the population!
Yes, I understood clearly that he was a Queens guy who probably played stickball and stoopball as a kid (even though he grew up in a more wealthy family than most). He probably beat up street toughs as a kid when they mistook him for a sissie!
“Mitt” and “honest” in the same sentence?
Actually I think Nixon was pretty good as far as decorum.
OTOH the fact that Trump had to deal with lots of crooks and corruption in NY probably equipped him better for this gig than a law degree.
She also misses both by miles; to those of us who know what those accents REALLY sound like.
OTOH...she did do what you said and made herself a pile of money in the bargain.
OTOH...she is also a plagiarizer, a liar, a people user, and a VERY nasty/evil person, who treats her family, friends, and just about everyone else with contempt, distain,or worse.
But INTJs are 34% of freepers in that sample!
Heeeeeeeey...who didn’t play stickball and stoopball with a pink Spaldeen? I sure did! :-)
The “if only” was sort of a qualifier there. ;-)
I don’t think you really want what you described.
We all think we want life to go smoothly and pleasantly along
all the time but when we get that we can’t wait for
someone to upset an apple cart.
Sent you a PM
Mr. Nixon was from a different generation ( still heavily WHITE GLOVE GOPers/gentlemen ) who fought back, but quietly, in public.
