These days most concealed carriers refer to smaller handguns less than a .45 caliber as mouse guns. Were talking about the Browning .25 ACP.
Yes, its is considered an antique self-defense gun from the early 20th century, some would say it was a fad that never faded.
Most people that do have these .25s are collectors and a small minority that actually have this as a backup.(ankle or throwaway guns) But is it a reliable self-defense gun?
Nowadays thanks to smart gun folks have put this caliber to the test against gel. The ideal penetration is twelve inches according to FBI protocol.
Heres Youtuber mark3smle tackling this question of whether or not the .25 ACP is reliable for self-defense.
Yes this little piece is the ideal size for concealed and lightweight, but it may not be the caliber to have to stop someone in its track. Probably best as a last resort. See the full footage testing of this .25 ACP for personal defense video here. Anyone carrying a mouse gun?
The best gun is the one you carry. Regardless of caliber. Reagan was shot with a .22
No, I carry a rat gun.
.380 with ARX rounds.
Can I shoot you with it?
I won’t carry anything lighter than the 9mm. Even that calibre is very dependent on bullet placement.
Reagan was shot with a .22
Four people down, including President Reagan.
I finished watching “Godless” from Neflix the other night. A great quote from the character, Frank Griffin..”Aint nothing scarier than a man with a gun. And aint nothing more helpless than a man without one”. :)
My neighbor killed her husband with one shot from a .22.
A .22 out of the same length barrel as a .25 is about the same power.
But the .25 is more reliable because it is center-fire.
This is off topic but is Godless worth watching? The trailer looked like it was about some feminist chicks in the old west. I have little interest in the “tough girl” genre.
I will watch nearly anything set in history. But no chick flicks.
Vasily Blokhin
German Walther Model 2 .25 ACP
Blokhin would stand waiting behind the door in his executioner garb: a leather butcher's apron, leather hat, and shoulder-length leather gloves. Then, without a hearing, the reading of a sentence or any other formalities, each prisoner was brought in and restrained by guards while Blokhin shot him once in the base of the skull with a German Walther Model 2 .25 ACP pistol. He had brought a briefcase full of his own Walther pistols, since he did not trust the reliability of the standard-issue Soviet TT-30 for the frequent, heavy use he intended. The use of a German pocket pistol, which was commonly carried by German police and intelligence agents, also provided plausible deniability of the executions if the bodies were discovered later.
My three daughters and I have had to discuss the “tough girl” genre.
It usually ends up with watching on Youtube a 300 lb man hit something and a 100 lb woman (or man) hit something.
Weight has a quality, as does muscle mass.
And I sure as anything not going to go up against a 300 lb man without a gun. And hopefully neither are my daughters.
I never had to defend myself from a mouse. I had 458 magnum to pick wild raspberries. A boot works on mice.
A little’s a lot if it’s all you’ve got.
I used to carry a Berra Thunder .380 CC but my grip caused it to jam all the time. I'm not a fan of revolvers so my Darlin Husband bought me a Walther P99 with a green Crimson Trace. It fits my hands better and it has never jammed.
I am a big fan of a 9mm now. More stopping power.
Oops I meant BERSA.
It’s better than nothing but if you ever find yourself in an actual defensive gun use situation, you’ll probably be wishing you had brought more gun and more bullets. That little .25 might make an OK BUG but it’s not really ideal for that either IMO.
I carry a Sig .380 that is always in my front pocket which, in my opinion, is key. Is the firearm small enough and concealable enough to always be carried? In Most instances of CCW being utilized showing the gun will diffuse the situation. Its not always shoot out at the OK corral. I have a Bauer knockoff of the Browning .25 that I inherited from a great uncle. I have tried to convince my wife to get her CCW and at least carry the Bauer. Id feel much safer if she would comply.
It is better than nothing.
It is surprising how many people think differently.
Placement of the round you bet.
I took down a huge sow with a .223
Put in her ear. Dead before she hit the ground.
I keep a .380 in my truck and a Taurus Judge (.45/410) in the house.
Yes. The issue is hitting the target.
