This plane passed over my house today. It flew low and looks like an old time plane. I'm thinking it has something to do with Pearl Harbor Day?
I heard it as it passed over, flying pretty low. Had an old time motor sound and so I ran out to see what kind of plane it was, bringing my camera as I did. Snapped the shot as it was flying over my neighbors yard. Wish I had caught it over my own yard, would've been a better shot.
Anyway going to ask if anyone out there recognizes this type of plane.
Military version of the DC-3

DC-3 (civil) C-47 (Military) Made by Douglas
I’ve flown one for 4 years in a cargo outfit
You heard those big radial engines, which have a very characteristic sound.
It’s a beauty!
An air plane, I think.
Gooney Bird, TailDragger..................
DC-2 or 3?
Wow! That was fast!
So it WAS connected to Pearl Harbor!
Thank you! :)
So nice a way to remember those brave men on that day so long ago, honoring those who died as a result of the attack on U.S. Military and naval forces in Hawaii.

If you have a more pixel’ed picture where you can read the tail number, you can look it up on the public FAA aircraft database. You can then discern who owns it, type, and lots of other info.
Several have been restored, primarily by the CAF. Workhorse of WWII and post WWII airlines.
The US Army
Knew good thing when they saw it
Kept the DC-3
But they could not use
The Douglas designation
So C47
There even was a SOVIET VERSION!...................We gave them the plans so they could build their own during WWII.................

Incredible Amazing Facts about the DC-3 ... In World War II, a Japanese kamikaze pilot tried to shoot one down, then, unable to do so, rammed it. ... A C- 47 ran out of fuel with all its crew bailing out, only to learn later that the aircraft had landed gently all by itself in a meadow several miles from were the crew had deserted ...

The plane they say has the knack of anticipating pilot errors and compensating for those mistakes. Some insist it can fly by itself. In 1957, a USAF DC-3 ran out of gas over Missouri. Everyone bailed out and made it to the ground safely. The DC- 3 glided over the horizon and made a perfect, unassisted landing in a cornfield.
