That may be true for ranch folks but not someone like me with 10 acres and horses near a big city

Nashville

I lease dodge 1500 4wd sometimes I get lucky and they give me a Hemi

Usually it’s a six banger like in a Jeep....it’s ok....great mileage

I e owned every truck known since 1971

I prefer Cummins or the old 7.3 ford.....the new Duramax is smooth and reliable

The new Ford diesels are a joke without a 2-5000 dollar bulletproofing
I learned hard way that one

Tks SCT TUNER FOR THAT BILL ON A NEW HEAD!

Anyhow

My trucks are utility for alfalfa etc but also for trips with my kids and date night with Wifey

So a combo Yukon and pickup with some comfort suits us....

I pay 650/month...and provide my own insurance

I run. Lot of miles.......85-150,000 year

My dads old construction trucks were usually GMC just cause he liked them

Bench seats and manual and wood beds sidesteps in the 60s

Utilitarian like Internationals etc

So we’re both right

You guys are just plain wrong on this

I know plenty of folks including me who own luxury trucks and worked them

I’ve run f350 and mega cab Cummins into the 4-500,000 mile range

I have a 2009 Ford 250 6.0 garbage motor rebulletproofed with best studs and she’s into 325,000 now

Just put new alternator and two new batteries in her

8 inch pie and 37 mud terrains

Cold air intake etc

It’ll run with a charger if you turn up the tuner to nearly 500 bhp

It’s hard on a motor though

And we work that truck a lot....it’s go to truck for big stuff

Course it’s basically a white bench seat fleet truck with a hot but crappy motor

We have nice cars but a car is still just a car. I have hauled mulch in my Jag. I pull up to Home Depot and have them load 6 bags of wood pellets in it. I was just putting a kid seat in for the baby grandkid and realized I never cleaned the mud off the leather seats after I hauled home a bunch of plants last time. lol

I get the feeling the author drives a prius with a Hillary bumper sticker.

Luxury trucks are just that, a luxury option. I see people pulling 5th wheels, hauling people/stuff, or whatever. There’s a market with people wanting to buy.

I just got a straight off the lot brand new pick up a couple weeks ago. My first new vehicle in over 30 years. I looked at Fords and Chevys. I wanted a full size truck extended cab 4X4, with a V-8. My cousin put a bug in my ear which I’m glad he did. He said go look at a Toyota Tundra. A couple days later I was driving a pearl blue Tundra SR5 Off Road Package. Just short of a 350 Cubic inch engine and 6 speed automatic. 18 inch wheels for high clearance and best of all a lifetime power train warranty. It’s likely my last vehicle purchase.

There is a market for this out there. Lots of wealthier people, particularly in the South and Midwest, still like to drive trucks. I’m sure they would enjoy a lot more comfort. Just because they are wealthy doesn’t mean they still don’t like to do things a truck will help them with. I see lots of rich people hauling boats and campers with their trucks. I also see lots of wealthy people still living on what is essentially a farm. Lots of land, fences, workshops, big garden, and perhaps some animals. These people still often have hobbies that could use a truck.

There's a shop north of me that sells custom vehicles for safari trips and the occasional zombie poxyclypse.

Only around a half million each.

Where we live we see lots trucks all ticked out like that but most of them are for USE and not show. For example you can always tell a show jeep. It has the huge tires and the fancy extra lights and a bumper that looks like a battering ram, but look all over and there high lift jack. A real offroad machine might look almost the same but they darn sure have a jack and they probably have some faint ‘pinstripe’ scratches in the paint.

You could have done worse. You could have bought a Ram with a 9 speed Auto.

I am the the owner of an F-type Jaguar, which is a pain in most ways imagined.

Have you ever watched "The Gumball Rally"? One of the running gags in the movie is the Jaguar team never making it out of the starting garage.

There better be a retractable side step on this $$$pit, as I’d be pissed spending $100k and it still has no side step.

Looks nice but I think I'll keep my 2001 Ford F150 in the driveway and the extra $100,000 in the bank. The old truck still looks nice and runs well.

I used to joke with the kids that I wanted them to get me a Porsche Cayenne for Christmas. One day we stopped at Porsche dealer and looked over a Cayenne because they were curious about. I admitted to them that if I had all the money in the world, I wouldn't buy a Cayenne because I could buy 3 Ford Explorers for same the amount, any one of which could satisfactorily perform the tasks that I need done by the vehicle.

Re: Your $100,000 photo

Looks like there is only 12-18 inches of clearance under that truck.

If you bottom out, you are going to leave about $50,000 of auto parts in the middle of the road!

Those 7.3 diesels are solid gold.

Still love my '97 F-250. Have sent very little money on it.
