Economics is an intellectual tool that can help us make better decisions, but it should not make these decisions for us. There are many rational reasons to sacrifice economic expediency for principles of far greater valuethings like family, freedom, art, science, nature, or God.
One of the reasons Singapore is so rich is because political dissent, and the uncertainty it creates, is extirpated. Likewise, Chinas economic rise was made possible, in part, due to its ability to bulldoze villages, pollute rivers, and silence criticsall in the name of progress.
Economically justified? Certainly. Rational? Perhapsfor Benthams most ardent acolytes.
But for those who, like Edmund Burke, see the nation not as an assorted collection of atomized individuals, seeking pleasure at the expense of their fellow man, but as a people inseparably bonded to one another through culture and language, and to the past and future through art and blood, sacrifices laid at the altar of economics are of little value. Far more important is the preservation of our nation, be it wilderness or artifice, duty or liberty.

Economics is not a hard science. I’m not criticizing its importance, just stating a fact. It’s difficult to be a hard science when there are so many diverse factors at play, including a huge contribution of human emotion, and the influence of dynamic political influences.
I stopped reading The Economist two decades ago. It only represents “Economist” thinking if that economist is Paul Krugman or Robert Reich
Some say it is “owned” by the Rothchild Banking Empire. I have no idea about that, but this rag certainly has globalist, elitist, highly statist themes and thinking.
Open borders just means that those that have not want what those that have and not work for it.
The Economist was a well known globalit rag decades before you stopped reading it.
Illegal Aliens take our jobs and send the money to other countries. The majority pay no taxes. This makes us Poorer. Thanks DemocRATS.
The Half Percenters will be $78T digitally richer, not the world or any significant part of it.
Yeah, just think what it would do for the whole funeral industry.
There are two branches of economics. Microeconomics is things like supply and demand. Macroeconomics is things like stimulus theory and the Philips curve. IOW, micro is theory, macro is Democrat wishful thinking.

Americans want to see America richer.
The rest of the world can shift for itself.
Most economists make Astrologers appear as respectable scientists.
This is the same smelly Eurorag that couldn’t get enough of Bill Clinton or Obama.
I went back to undergrad as an adult at 24 with the intent of receiving a BS in Economics and then getting a MS or PHD in Economics shortly thereafter. I ended up with an A+ average with my undergrad Econ degree, but I decided to get a MBA rather than continue on with Economics for the reasons you outlined. It mainly assumes that people are always rational, which just isn’t the case. Socialism also distorts economics as the rational thing for many immigrants (illegal or otherwise) and most of the lower class is to just leech off Western society.
Ha ha ha ha go away drooling halfwits you embarrass yourselves. Just the diseases alone would destroy many countries the muslim animals didn’t get to. Fools!!

The author needs to step away from his computer—and never return.
The world would be grateful.
The Communists are further reproached for desiring to abolish countries and nationality. Those that want these things think exactly like Marx and Engels.
[I]n general, the protective system of our day is conservative, while the free trade system is destructive. It breaks up old nationalities and pushes the antagonism of the proletariat and the bourgeoisie to the extreme point. In a word, the free trade system hastens the social revolution. It is in this revolutionary sense alone, gentlemen, that I vote in favor of free trade.
Marx, 1848
You made the right decision about getting an MBA.
