This site fricking sucks.
If you want me to continue to be a member, you will fix it.
>> You DO know the site has been under DOS attack, right?
Has that been proven to be true?
Who the eff are you? Learn some manners, tool-bag.
DOS stands for denial of service attack. In which the goal is not to break into the target server, but to overload it with useless requests, so that it crashes, or its legitimate users are unable to get through.
Example: Perturbed by FR's existence, a moonbat rents a botnet, consisting of thousands or millions of malware-compromised computers scattered around the world, and orders the compromised computers to flood FR with junk requests. Using a botnet to commit DOS is known as DDOS, for distributed denial of service. The bogus requests come from a wide range of IP addresses, not just one or a few, and thus are harder to reject based on IP alone.

https://www.secplicity.org/2017/03/07/know-much-costs-rent-iot-botnet/ (IOT stands for internet of things, i.e., the botnet members are not PCs, but rather embedded computers, such as internet-connected thermostats or web cams.)

No, it is more like your buddy inviting you over to watch the big game on his big screen while supplying all the refreshments and only puts out a tip jar. You happily contribute your part by throwing a $20 in the jar, only to be disappointed when the big game comes on that the signal gets jammed and you end up missing the whole show. Now you still like your buddy and the other guys that showed up for the game but still disappointed. So the next week your buddy invites everyone back the next week for that game and tells you everything is fixed and failure won’t happen again. So you come back, toss another $20 in the jar, grab a brewski and wait for the game. It starts out, great picture and sound until the last quarter and the signal gets jammed again and again, you miss seeing the winning touchdown. You really don’t care about the tip and you still like your buddy but you might just decline the next invitation because, well, you are tired of being disappointed about missing the game.
Need a dry diaper?
I take JimRob’s word for that. He would know. Upthread are some links to where he posted about it already.
Вы понимаете «некультурный отказник», Ильич?
;^)
I already said that I missed it. You repeated what I already said.
I asked if there was a link on the side bar or in the Forum titles to a thread on the DOS attack. You have no response but to declare you read several. Neat. I have read none, nor heard of them.
This site fricking sucks.
Nothing but rumor. Last down time had leftover work (e.g.,https). Jim said some maintenance now, nowhere did I read DOS attacks.
Somewhat on topic, but one of the things that led me towards Christianity was Blade Runner.
The character Roy Batty was a cyborg, created by Tyrell.
Batty was dying and tracked down Tyrell.
He demanded that Tyrell "give him more life, F###er."
Tyrell told him he was made as best as he could possibly be made.
In response, Batty kissed his maker Tyrell, and then killed him.
Batty represented the vast majority of us ungrateful human creatures. We demand things from God, and when God responds with silence, we want to kill Him, curse Him, and leave Him. All the while, we ignore all the good that God has done for us in the first place.
Blade Runner was one of the deepest movies ever made.
The Early Bird gets the ZOT.
9600 baud?!? Downright speedy....my 1st modem was 300 baud. Worked OK on “all text” dial-up BBS’s!
I am still gonna say that Microsoft Azure or AWS would be a better solution for FR...would free up John for software tweeking, and both of those would be more robust against DDOS attacks.
Gate$ greatest ripoff ever?
Since FR is under Denial-Of-Service attacks,
I promise to be nicer to Democrats.
DEMOCRAT HUGS HERE!
Unfortunately, I know very few Democrats, because they cannot maintain a cogent argument! Sigh!
Only half hugs.
“Fixing” a live system while it is running is like playing with lightning.
Not for the faint of heart.
