A University of Delaware professor is under a barrage of fire for social media posts stating Otto Warmbier, who passed away after 18 months of brutality from the North Korean regime, “got exactly what he deserved” for being a privileged, white male and his type “think nothing of raping drunk girls at frat parties and snorting cocaine.”
“Is it wrong of me to think that Otto Warmbier got exactly what he deserved?” Professor Katherine Dettwyler wrote on her Facebook page. “He went to North Korea, for f*ck’s sake, and then acted like a spoiled, naive, arrogant US college student who had never had to face the consequences of his actions. I see him crying at his sentencing hearing and think ‘What did you expect?’”

The University of Delaware claims that Dettwyler’s comments “do not reflect the values” of the University. But they did NOT state they are terminating her contract as an adjunct professor. By allowing her to remain on their staff they ARE agreeing with her statements and her statements DO become part of their values. We need to see in print that UD has fired immediately this so-called professor. UD is a public university that receives federal taxpayer money—MY money and YOUR money. We have a right to stop abuse of our tax money.

She is allowed to discriminate like that because she is a product of the “deep state,” which set itself up through tenure not to be fired for ANYTHING. This is also the ugly outcome of conservatives, back when colleges were staffed with them, wanting to bring balance to the schools and, so, they began to hire liberals to give a balance to provoke debate and thought. Well, the liberals, aggressive as they are, found ways to become the majority in our universities and colleges and then, they made sure that conservatives and conservative thought would not survive. Those who love the dream of dictatorship, of which they can be a part, take the opportunity to enslave in the most vile and vicious ways, no matter what diagnosis of madness could be applied to them...when they have tenure. Also, do not be fooled, in addition to large endowments, such as what Harvard enjoys, our tax dollars go to support these schools, as well. What is going on is a cauldron of upside-down, inside-out madness, which is largely supported by the Democratic base, made up of a coalition of these groups..Rabid feminists, Hollywood celebrities, Silicon Valley billionaires, LGBTQ groups, Teacher’s Unions, and the propaganda media, most black people, and others who do not want national unity to prevail, but, rather, identity politics. In other words, a Tower of Babel and we know how that turned out.

I agree we shouldn't be giving a soapbox to these people, but addressing your point about Professors vs Adjunct vs Lecturer etc., unfortunately it is generally those on the lower end of the academic hierarchy who wind up doing the bulk of the ‘teaching’.
Deserved? I would not go that far, but my sympathy is limited when self-chosen stupid behavior results in tragedy.
You are correct, but referring to her as ‘Professor’ is incorrect, and implies a gravitas that isn’t there.
(Unfortunately, it isn’t there with a lot of full professors these days, either...)
