The great Norman Podhoretz, in his masterful book, “Why Are Jews Liberals,” from whence this article is drawn, seems to conclude...that the Jews have only managed to exist through their adoption of “universalist” ideas—what I would call, Statist ideas—which supremely exist and shed their spoors mostly on the Left side of a leftist-stained table cloth.
We are talking civilly at table here, okay? No conspiracies of “Jew Lizard Masters From Space,” or the Rothschild Illuminati, or anything crazy, okay? We are just—for the moment—talking here.
Okay; here’s THE problem: even though pro-Jew and pro-Israel forces have moved to the right, the Jews have not.

This has been debated before. The answer is that most American Jews are from urban areas and urban areas lean way Left. In other words their liberalism trumps their Judaism.
If I had a dollar for every time I have seen this question proposed.

The vote of American Jews is not different from their cohorts in the same geographic area, same age, same education level and same income.
Now, why would you expect Jews to vote differently than the cohorts they place themselves?

Most American Jews, along with most American black, vote liberal. That doesn’t mean they all do.
I always assumed that the reason the majority of Jews voted Dem was that the Republican party is the home of the Christian vote. Also, the democratic party is NOT what it used to be. Perhaps they’ll see the light.
Israelis and eastern euro Jews seem to be much more conservative. NYC and S Florida Jews are the most liberal and the worst
Jews do have the distinction, in my book at least, of voting AGAINST their pocketbook every chance they get.
Others with money vote to protect that money (Republicans), people without money vote for those that will take money from others and hand to them (Democrats), but Jews have money and yet vote for people that will take it form them and hand it to others that don’t feel like working.
Go figure.
They do it for the exact same reason Blacks vote lockstep for Democrats, basic survival. The last time the Jews stood up to the Democrats, the Party Leader had them rounded up and led to the Gas Chambers for extermination, just like the Blacks and the KKK.
Self Guilt.
Why are so many essentially socialist and in favor of gun control? That whole socialist gun control thing did not work out well for them roughly 80 years ago. Seemingly the “Never Forget” mantra suffers from a certain selective memory.

My father, now in his 90s, grew up in Mississippi. The Jewish families he knew growing up were indistinguishable from everyone else save where they worshipped. In WWII when he met a lot of urban Jews from the Northeast he was surprised at how very different they were from those of his hometown. Because of sheer numbers and visibility in the media I think Americans have a tendency to think that Northeastern and Hollywood Jews are typical of all and they simply aren’t.
