On the rooftop of her Brooklyn apartment building this past spring, Erika Anderson put on a vintage-style white wedding dress, stood before a circle of her closest friends, and committed herself to herself.
I choose you today, she said. Later she tossed the bouquet to friends and downed two shots of whiskey, one for herself and one for herself. She had planned the event for weeks, sending invitations, finding the perfect dress, writing her vows, buying rosé and fresh baguettes and fruit tarts from a French bakery. For the decor: an array of shot glasses emblazoned with the words You and Me. In each one, a red rose.

“She first came across the concept of self-marriage when she was a student at Stanford University, studying love, ritual, and religion in the anthropology department ... When she graduated in 2011, Dominique went to the Burning Man festival in Nevada, where the theme was “rites of passage.”
Stanford ... studying love, ritual, and religion in the anthropology department ... Burning Man ... rites of passage. yeah, i think i can see parts of the problem ...
So, how was the wedding night? Memorable, or more of the same?
Inquiring minds want to know.
“These women need a cat lady starter kit. “
... “cat not included” ...
I know a woman who did this. I don’t blame her though, she’s black, and the odds for them getting married are terrible these days.
I remember a time when crazy people were called crazy and everyone considered them to be crazy.
Today, craziness is just another life-style choice, and is celebrated, and you get articles written about your insanity.
Strange article and concept.
I thought we were all committed to ourselves by being ourselves. It seems somewhat like a lack of self-esteem to “have” to be married. Who says you have to be married or are less of a person for not being married? Similarly, this is yet another swipe at marriage itself, and its definition. Coming soon: marriage to pets, inanimate objects, multiple people (if not already happening).
I think they’ve been publishing the same sex quiz in every other issue since 1957.
Oh no, let me save you from having to click and read the article, she still plans to date (other people).
If you are married to yourself how would you off your spouse? How would you ever have any alone time? Pretty hard to cheat on yourself. What if a third voice shows up in your head? Was that you who farted or your spouse?
Does she plan to cheat on herself with men or women?

“Feminism was established to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream of society.” - Rush Limbaugh’s Undeniable Truth #24
Women want to have a wedding.
They dream about it and plan for it from childhood.
They view it as a rite of passage.
The relationship between males and females is a mess.
The boys all want the top 10% (in looks) of the girls.
The girls all want the top 10% (in looks and later money) of the boys.
There’s a lot of love and happiness being wasted because Hollywood and Madison Avenue have convinced so many people that looks are all that matter.
I thought that would make you go blind.
Can I do it, until I need glasses?
I never thought of that. Solid point.
Boy after those 2 drinks I can hear the buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz lol

I'm not sure that's really any different than it has ever been, men are genetically disposed to seek out young attractive women who will ostensibly give birth to the strongest and healthiest children and women look for men who will make the best providers (as judged by either a strong healthy physique in younger men or material wealth and success in older men). The difference is now, unlike most of history, our idea of what makes a beautiful women or handsome man has been heavily influenced by our access to TV / Internet. A century ago, a young man or women growing up in a small town may have only seen 50 members of the opposite sex of similar age by the time they were old enough to wed. Now, due to mass media, they see that many in an hour of watching TV, not to mention that those tend to be very attractive actors and models. Now that small town girl who would have, a century ago, fallen head over heels for the small town boy of average looks thinking him a "10", now won't give him the time of day because she knows there are far more attractive fish in the sea.
Will the Left ever tired of meaningless, stupid, Woodstock-inspired acts? They act more like children every day.
