Mars ain’the kind of place to raise your kids. In fact, it’s cold as hell.

Mars will kill people. It is not only horribly cold, it has much weaker gravity and is bombarded by radiation. Humans cannot survive on Mars, even if you solve the cold problems and radiation problems, because the Human body is not capable of surviving under sustained lack of gravity.

It took years of research in space to arrive at this conclusion, but I think it is now pretty much a consensus that gravity is necessary for human health.

A tourist destination for short stays, perhaps, but that's about it until Mars gets more mass.

Yes thank you. I was not trying to convince anyone. I was just stating my opinion. Either folks get already or they will assume we can only do one great thing a once.

This will be a lesson for ya. Don’t bring up science, space exploration, astronomy etc. You’ll be mocked and you’ll receive every juvenile stupid quip imaginable.

Btw, I agree with you.

I hear the Mars rover is due for its’ 30 kilometer tune up. Better send a mechanic up there.

Unless you give the planet a magnetic field like earth your out of luck. The solar wind will blow it all away. Like what has already happened.

I dont quite understand the automatic disdain for it myself.

Sure, let’s not blow the taxpayer’s dollars on it, but let’s get some real private sector incentive to get first to the Moon at least, which I think is a better goal because too much can go wrong getting to Mars.

It would be a cinch getting remote-controlled equipment to the moon to build a base from the comfort of Earth, and just get people there in less than a week with a small craft.

Surprised it hasn’t been done already.

No, we need to terraform Mars.

No, you can not terraform Mars. It doesn't have enough of a magnetosphere to retain and protect a life sustaining atmosphere from solar winds.

Well, we don’t, but everyone in the Obama administration should be sent there.

I argue that it is in the National interest as is the Military. We need to be competitive in the galaxy as other nations are. ✨

Apparently you need to do both increase mass and create a magnetic field. Mars already has a slight magnetic field, but it's not strong enough to protect it.

Sending a comet or asteroid into orbit, thus making a moon could help with the magnetic field.

can we create a magnetic field for Mars

I argue that it is in the National interest as is the Military.

The maintenance of a military is explicitly authorized by the Constitution; a broad mandate to advance "the National interest" is not.

Going to Mars is for countries that have a balanced checkbook. We’re about $100 trillion in debt. You wanna go to Mars you pay for it. Uncle Sam is all tapped out.

Where there is a will, there's a way.

Of course we can terraform mars. We just have to increase its mass, possibly provide more iron, and put a moon in orbit.
