This 18 month long and polarizing American election has been truly surreal+absurd.
One of the truly strange effects of this election is that certain of my female friendships that had endured for decades—through good times and bad times; through career highs and career failures; through personal disappointment;through joy, happiness and the thrill of victory and personal achievement; through marriages, children, divorce, sickness and even death of loved ones or partners; basically, through life- the good, the very bad and the truly ugly—could not withstand this friggin’ election.
WRONG! Go to a Republican Meeting and you’ll meet plenty of strong willed America loving women who don’t believe in the liberal crap that weak and silly libs think is the only acceptable way of life. Go to a gun club, or a bowling club, or somewhere you’ll find real women. You’re far less likely to find them on FaceBook or similar sites.

Maybe but I'm proud to say there are three physicians in my family who are all conservatives. One an oncologist, one an ER nurse and one a thoracic surgeon. The oncologist (now retired) is a naturalized citizen from Honduras, his wife, who is my step-sister, is a naturalized citizen from Canada and her daughter, the ER nurse is also a naturalized citizen from Canada. Their son, the surgeon, was natural born here.
My step-mother (who is now deceased) was also a naturalized citizen from Canada.......

It would be worth it to twist the virtual knife in a liberal’s ideology. Space heaters don’t cost that much.
I dated a gal 40 years ago. She found me on Linkedin and we messaged a couple of times. I told my wife about it. “Yeah - a dodged the bullet there. She works for the government helping refugees find housing, get adjusted, etc.”
Take heart. My Doctor and I spend my examination time talking about hunting, pros and cons of certain firearms, and politics. He and I have never disagreed on anything in years.
Is she aware of the error in her ways...? (I hope.)

What is with this crap about “Asians”? For 1, my brother married one - albeit Filipino - who turned out to be screwed up, dysfunctional, extremely materialistic and shallow and selfish. My brother ended up with custody of the kids and she didn’t really care.
First off, you obviously didn’t include politics as important for choosing a mate. “Internet” is not justaposed to “Asian”. You can advertise everything that’s important to you, to cut the wheat from the chaff right away.
That’s what I did. Long on-line dating ads about things I like, AND things I don’t like. Must be conservative was a primary item.
Well, I got my man. And he isn’t a different race from me (although he may be partly Indian).

Seems to be a lot of that going around in this thread as I can identify with that, too. A childhood first crush/girlfriend now lives in San Diego and is totally around the bend with her DU posts and her "safety pin" avatar. I have chosen to take the high road through the entire election cycle except with a few close friends who I knew take it as well as give it. I hope to maintain the connection but it wouldn't cause great mental anguish is they chose to drop me.
I have found myself a fine American woman. One of the most even-keeled, thoughtful people I have ever known. When I met her she was very liberal. On one of our first dates, she even made the3 bold statement that she would turn me into a liberal before long. I have successfully brought her to into the light from the darkness. I give my conservative buddies a hard time for not having turned their wives (thereby saving their souls).
Well, I just had nice conversation with my wife. I mostly listened. (I was told in no uncertain terms that I had to be nice...no politics.)
My wife is way Irish and it’s about how things look.
Plans changed a little bit.
Now it’s Milwaukee for brunch because we are adding people.
This is the first time we got together for christmas, with her whole side of the family, since her older brother died 6+ years ago.
This started out as a party of 3.
Adding her younger brother and his family plus my son & daughter with their respective families, it’s now a party of 18.
My nephew(Wife’s brother’s son) is a brainiac and a hell of a man.
Works for USAID. Got there via an internship with the Clinton Foundation (plus he’s a John Hopkins Scholar).
His sister is even smarter.
His father is a retired school teacher who retired(in his 50’s) because he thought Walker’s policies were going to screw him out of his taxpayer funded benefits.
I’ll try to be even keeled thru brunch, but when the check comes, I am going to ask for a recount and see how it goes from there....
1) They weren’t really your friends. It is just an online computer bulletin board. If you aren’t talking to them on the phone, aren’t going to each other’s houses, aren’t sharing meals, well IDK how you are really friends. Time to move on!
2) Facebook has been around for how long? They were not your Facebook “friends” for decades.
