Kicks of mules
ObamaCare is in big trouble. With the election of a Republican president and the survival of Republican majorities in both the House and Senate, ObamaCare should be history.
But ObamaCare is not dead yet. The effort to repeal and replace it is going to face some serious obstacles - some of which are policy-related, like the problem of how you deal with people with pre-existing conditions, or of how you transition people who have signed up for subsidized policies. The left wants you to think that repealing ObamaCare means ripping peoples health care away from them. The trick is to find a way not to do that, and it wont be easy.
The author must be smoking some Colorado weed. Is he not aware that not a single Senate Republican voted for that mess?
There is a battle taking shape in the GOP.
There is a significant number of people, who simply want Obamacare repealed.
There is also a significant number of people, who want it FIXED. I myself fall in that camp.
I think US healthcare is a big, big topic for this administration. Our healthcare has become a very, very expensive mess. But that is just my opinion.
There are plenty of FReepers however, who seem to also fall in the camp opposing everything about Obama, including Obamacare.
I tell you just from my opinion however, this is the one issue I firmly believe Obama had the right idea on, and the GOP has been completely asleep on, for at least several decades.
GOP you did nothing. Nothing.
Obamacare was needed. It is a mess, but it was needed.
FIX it. Don’t simply end it. We do not need to return to our messed up healthcare system.
Republicans had two repeals of Obamacare that Obama refused to sign already offer that included pre-existing conditions and people to 26 being able to stay on parents insurance while in their basements.
Obama would not sign those two Republican things, but now he claims if the President elect does something with those two points in it that it means Obama has some credit? How desperate is that for Obama?
Republicans tried to repeal it twice while leaving the two points in there and Obama vetoed.
I’ve read a few Dan Calabrese columns and thought not bad.
This one stinks like burnt hair.
Sorry Dan, you just lost this Freeper.
Couple more like me and you might as well move to Anarctica.
FIX it. Dont simply end it. We do not need to return to our messed up healthcare system.
I predict that light in the loafers lindsey graham will switch parties.
I think you misspelled “most prohibitively expensive”, seems like you mistakenly wrote “best” somehow.
:D
Just saying.
They should be terrified of defying the will of their voters.
Compulsion to contract is illegal.
I think trump is going to leave the preexisting condition part and the high school (i mean 26 year old stuff) which makes sense to me. a separate preexisting condition pool has been i think part of the heritage foundation proposals. a better option would be to buy lifelong policies when young. that follow regardless of unemployment, insure for only catastrophic events. and last for you life time.
Sir, with all due respect, your comments remind me of a guy I came upon while helping out in Jarrell, Texas back in 1997 following a tornado that killed 27 people.
The poor fellows house was just a pile of rubble scattered over 10 acres. He was of course distraught to say the least but was actually engaged in a discussion about whether or not anything could be salvaged, which, under the circumstances prevailing at the moment, was incredulous. I overheard the other fellow he was talking to gently say something like “Bill (can’t remember his name), I think you better just let us scoop it all up and put it in the dumpster”.
Like I said, this is a big future debate, internal to the GOP.
All I can say is, our healthcare system is good. For SOME. For a whole huge bunch of others, it is not. It is an expensive mess, which does not cover them.
Which is what this debate will be about. Other countries don’t do healthcare like we do.
I’m not sure, we are doing it well.
At all.
Obama are was not needed. There is nothing in this world except a government program that needs 20,000 pages to implement. What parts of this huge weath wasting transfer scheme needs to be saved?
For the life of me I can’t undersand anyone who thinks the government makes any situation better with 20000 pages of regulations?
Wrong, recent noob addition to Free Republic. The only thing that needed to happen was to allow insurance across state lines.
You aren't really on our side, are ya.
Ending ObamaCare does NOT mean we are taking away anyone's "health care."
It might mean we are taking away coverage, i.e., subsidies for certain favored people. These subsidies for favored people are paid for by overcharging non-favored people for their coverage.
And remember: coverage ≠ care
Coverage boils down to a piece of paper, or a card. It proclaims, "You are insured." But it is not health care.
Before Obamacare, my whole family was covered by my employer.
Since I'm not poor enough to receive subsidies, and I'm not nearly wealthy enough to pay out of pocket, I've been totally SCREWED.
$1500/month in premiums.
Not a dime payed until I reach the deductible of 12K.
That isn't even "insurance". That's a catastrophic plan.
For those folks getting care that I am paying through the nose for, you're welcome.
Wish I had some "rich guy" paying MY bills.
Sigh.
