The Cascade Mall in Burlington, Washington is the latest site of a mass killing. Motive is uncertain, but the shooting was done by a 20 year old immigrant from Turkey, who came here as a young boy.
The Cascade Mall has been widely reported as a gun free zone. I believe it is. It has been stated that the parent company, Macerich, has a corporation wide gun free zone policy. From an opencarry.org post:
Cascade Mall (201 Cascade Mall Drive) - Burlington (Macerich Corporate-wide policy, due to this thread)I am looking for image to verification of the gun free policy at Cascade Mall. I have found several references saying that it is, but a picture would have more impact. The picture above, from the Skagit Valley Herald, does not have sufficient resolution to be sure. It is possible that the no guns policy is in the Code of Conduct at the upper left of the picture.
Can anyone tell what that is? It looks like it could be a person holding a rifle, but that would be a convoluted "no guns" sign.
Yes, that is a Circle-Slash over a cigarette. Not gun related.
Interesting question is how much weight the "no gun zone" laws have, if any? Just because a mall owner puts a little sign up doesn't mean that as a concealed carry holder I'm going to honor their "request". It's hard to imagine being prosecuted for being a CCW holder armed at the mall. Is there even a law you are breaking? What levels of signs are need for the law to be invoked? As the OP has stated, it's not blatantly obvious from looking at this door. (Where as the smoking bad is, but even if you lit up a cigarette inside you'd only be told to put it out and asked to leave.)
Opinions?
No law being broken. The owner of the mall must request you leave the premises, after that they can arrest you for trespassing.
At the bottom of each of those doors is what looks like a circle with a slash through a gun and knife.
According to this thread, it is a gun free zone. http://forum.opencarry.org/forums/showthread.php?37817-Washington-Businesses-that-Ban-Guns
Then there is this from handgunlaw.us:
No Firearm signs in Washington have no force of law unless they are posted on property that is specifically mentioned in State Law as being off limits to those with a Permit/License to Carry. If you are in a place not specifically mentioned in the law that is posted and they ask you to leave, you must leave. If you refuse to leave then you are breaking the law and can be charged. Even if the property is not posted and you are asked to leave you must leave. Always be aware of the possibility that responding Police Officers who may have been called without your knowledge and may not know the laws on trespass etc. could arrest you even if you are within the law.
"No Firearm" signs do not have the force of law in WA. They may have a "no guns" policy but just didn't post any signs.
I have read that they are posted. I have not been able to find pictures.
In some of the gun discussion groups, people have mentioned that they are posted.
It may be in the Code of Conduct.
It depends on the laws in your state.
In mine, it's considered criminal trespass, a class A misdemeanor. That's enough to revoke your CHL.
The law has been clarified to make effective notice for a "no guns" policy be very clear. A compliant sign has to be about 2 feet by 2 feet, with specific wording in English and Spanish. Or, they can provide printed notice -- handing it out to you as you enter.
It’s either a No Banjos or No Smoking logo....
Which state is that, if you don’t mind me asking?
In the malls I’ve gone to (including my prime one, shot up a few years ago in another incident), I’ve never seen any signs posted in all my life. Nor for all the other rules they have. They can be found on websites.
I have seen a number of Malls with No Gun signs.
One of the most prominent is Mall of the Americas, near Minneapolis.
The Crossroads Mall, recent scene of the mass stabbing in St. Croix, has them.

This non-citizen turd is registered to vote in Washington, according to radio host Lars Larsen. Motor-Voter was a wonderful idea!
