Thanks to anticipated emissions standards for power plants and other factors, Which is English means, "Hydrogen will only be economical if we get the government to outlaw or tax alternatives."

Lies.
Park your Hydrogen car for a month at the airport. You are running an air conditioner freezer 24/7 for a month.
Betcha that costs more than 50 cents a gallon, more than gasoline and diesel too.
Lol. Just a hunch.

Ridiculous. The energy equivalent hydrogen to 20 gallons of gas would have to be towed behind the car in a tank.

The NREL plan assumes large-scale production of hydrogen through electrolysis, but with renewable energy used to provide the majority of electricity in place of fuels that produce high levels of carbon emissions. Wishful thinking. First of all, electrolysis doesn't happen easily. The components and support apparatus, including the catalysts, are obtained from using standard manufacturing processes using oil and coal. The electrolytes are similarly created, and you can't just use regular bathwater. Unless they plan to use green energy in the total manufacturing process, this will still produce high levels of carbon emissions, not that it is a bad thing. Of course "they" say it is, but they're running a con game. The 50 cents price is achieved by using fossil fuels and government subsidy (and lies).

Does that include the $4.00 green subsidy?

When produced using renewable energy... There's the flaw right there. It takes energy to produce hydrogen gas by electrolysis. Now, if you could somehow train magical unicorns to do it, you're all set. Otherwise...

Oct 10, 2012 GM closes NY fuel cell facility, consolidates hydrogen research in MI.
The town of Honeoye Falls, NY, got a jolt on October 5, when General Motors announced it would be closing down its fuel-cell research facility there.
The 220 GM employees were given the opportunity to move to Pontiac, MI, where GM will be consolidating its fuel cell program to capitalize on "synergies" with the automaker's Global Powertrain Engineering headquarters.
So much for "synergies."

The average guy can handle gasoline without killing himself.
The same cannot be said of hydrogen.

Gas...50 cents....
Fed Tax....$2.50.... State Tax...$1.00
To: 2ndDivisionVet
The prototype fuel cell vehicles I’ve read about create hydrogen from natural gas. Why not just use the natural gas for fuel rather than adding another level of cost and complexity? Makes no sense to me.
To: 2ndDivisionVet
Water vapor is much, much more of a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide. The left will vilify hydrogen if it looks viable.

So, said another way, hydrogen cells will work great provided we install a trillion dollars of infrastructure and outlaw all the alternatives.
A cheap, clean alternative fuel already exists: CNG. But that means using natural gas and that’s eeeeeeevillll.

With a hundred and fifty percent county, state and federal taxes on it to bring it right back to three fifty a gallon. Oh yeah, and imagine granny trying to fuel up??

When hydrogen combusts with oxygen, it released water vapor; a green house gas far more potent than CO2.

As soon as the infrastructure is in place and a significant number of people switch over the subsidies disappear and the taxes start popping up.
