There is no mention of Bible in the Bible.
Holy Bible is capitalized.
Why is THE PROMPT in caps?
The word bible is used in other contexts than just the Holy Bible. For example, you could get a golf bible which tells you everything you need to know about a nice walk spoiled by a little white ball.
It’s because the Bible is a bible.
The gospel
The gospels
The bible
The Koran
The Hebrew Scriptures
The scriptures
The Christians
The Hindus
The Muslims
The cats
The Aggies
The sooners
The mustangs
The red raiders
The cowboys
The patriots
The above represent the auto correct capitalizations, I’m sensing some pro Aggie bias....
Maybe you just need to adjust which words are and aren’t recognized in the dictionary of whichever program you’re using. If “Islam” is in the dictionary in Word (or whatever other program) but “islam” is not, make the change yourself and save the change for future typing. Same with “bible”, “Bible” and any other words you have an issue with.
Or am I missing a larger point?
Bible can mean simoly an important kind of book in English. Although when we say the Bible meaning the Christian scriptures it should be capitized, we would not if we say the Camel Book is kind of a bible of Perl. Christian is an adjective so not capitized. Christianity should be as a specific proper name. Koran and Islam are specific names. Now Islam and the Koran are horrible...but that doesn’t matter for capitalization. We even capitilize Hitler and Stalin because they are proper names. Even Hilary Clinton is capitilized!
I tested this all out on a MS Word doc. When typing the word islam, it didn’t auto-correct, but a red squiggly line appeared under the word with the suggestion to capitalize Islam. I typed the words christian and christianity, and both auto-corrected with capitalization. The koran also showed the squiggly red line to indicate a suggested spelling change but did not auto-correct. When typing bible, it remained uncapitalized and no suggestions were made to capitalize. (This may be due to other meanings for bible.) Typing holy bible, it didnt auto-correct or give a suggestion for capitalization. No excuse for Holy Bible not to auto-correct or at the very least a red squiggly line for koran. (just noticed now that Koran auto-corrected right here on FR mail).
I think we also always refer to ourselves, if appropriate, as Causcasians....at least we’d get capitalized like the Asians and the Hispanics...
So just right click and select “add to dictionary” and it won’t prompt the correction again
This is pretty weak. Etymologically, the word “bible” (lower case) also means any book that is authoritative in its subject. When referring to the sacred text, it is either capitalized or even prefixed by a capitalized “The Bible”.
So, two spellings are legitimate, so no spell correction.
Because unlike the Koran, the bible is definitively an informative book.
My Opera browser considers both Christian and Christianity proper nouns.
I’ve noticed a lot of MSM publications don’t capitalize Bible anymore, but I haven’t noticed it with the spell checkers.
I just tried it and the FR spellchecker wants to capitalize both islam and koran but not Bible-had to do it manually. The word “Christian” was automatically capitalized.
