The city of Portland, Oregon, has set aside $30,000 to pay for bus fares for homeless individuals to leave town.
The program, called Homeward Bound, is similar to programs offered in other cities.
It is intended to help solve the homelessness problem in the city, which is so serious a state of emergency was declared last fall....

How’s that gonna work? If other cities do it too, they just trade bums.
Like most states that do this, it will be to the WELFARE MECCA OF CALIFORNIA.
Give them a flight to Hawaii. That way they can’t afford to come back.
Some cites in Germany are beginning to use this method as well, just to ease the crowding. The trick is to be sure you don’t end up giving the same person multiple tickets as they use different names or locations.

We did it in Des Moines back in the nineties. Sent them to Florida. Since we were at the intersection of I-35 and I-80, so we got a lot more homeless than most cities that size.
San Francisco. 1984 Democrat Convention. Some columnist suggested busing the homeless to the wine country and put them in a warehouse. That way they could drink the high-end stuff. Nothings too good for the Gentleman of the Grape.

So they take the free ticket and go see their cousin in Othertown for a while, then they come back after their cousin kicks them out.

Holy Moly! It’s people like her that give the Homeless a bad rap! I suspect she has some serious hoarding issues also.
Some folks with this tendency become worse under the stress of being homeless, so one problem literally feeds the other.
She already feels as though she has lost almost everything, so now she is determined to keep all things, no matter what! It’s a very difficult behavioral cycle to break. A reaction to fatalism and pessimism.
The city will only provide a ticket to people if staff can verify that family or friends will be waiting at the other end of the bus ride to provide shelter and support.
