Presidential candidate, John Kasich has weighed in on the Oregon bakers who were driven out of business and fined $135,000 because they declined to bake the cake for a gay wedding. This is what he said:
âI think frankly, our churches should not be forced to do anything thatâs not consistent with them. But if youâre a cupcake maker and somebody wants a cupcake, make them a cupcake, Letâs not have a big lawsuit or argument over all this stuff â move on. The next thing, you know, they might be saying, if youâre divorced you shouldnât get a cupcake.â
âMake them the cupcake?â Really? Is that an order King Kasich? Because I thought we still had a Constitution which mandates that our elected officials stay out of our business.
This removes all doubt about Kasich being a conservative. But it confirms how he views himself. As everybodyâs daddy endowing all his patriarchal wisdom on the children who gather at his feet. Itâs as if heâs wearing a creepy autocratic Father Knows Best mask.
âMake them the cupcakeâ indeed. Has he ever heard about the 13th Amendment? It prohibits a thing called âinvoluntary servitude.â That means that if someone doesnât want to âmake them the cupcake,â they donât have to âmake them the cupcake.â
Itâs been in effect for over 200 years, and as far as I can see, divorced people still get to have cupcakes pretty much as often as they want.
Oh and speaking of that, if someone is having a divorce party, a Christian baker should be able to reasonably decline baking the cake for that, too. Even if King Kasich, Mr. Non Sequitur, feels he has been ordained with the authority from God knows where â because itâs not the Constitution he swore to uphold â to command that they âmakeâ it.
It doesnât matter that his logic is asinine. Bottom line is itâs none of his damn business. Being governor of a state does not give him the right to walk into the kitchens of bakeries and command the owners to âmakeâ anything.
I know itâs been pretty beat up lately, but we still have the Constitution.
Get out, Kasich.
Thanks for eliminating another candidate from my further consideration!
“I think frankly, our churches should not be forced to do anything that’s not consistent with them. But if you’re a cupcake maker and somebody wants a cupcake, make them a cupcake, Let’s not have a big lawsuit or argument over all this stuff, move on. The next thing, you know, they might be saying, if you’re divorced you shouldn’t get a cupcake.”
Say good bye Gov. Get off the stage. And if you want a Muslim cab driver to bring you a bottle of scotch from the liquor store, get your walking shoes on. Moron.
Ohio Kasich firewall.
No shoes, no shirt, no service
Kasich autocorrect? “Mask have.” Demonstrated to be a moron.
“Ohio Kasich firewall.”
Bonfire is more like it.
Don’t places still have the sign: “We reserve the right to refuse service to customers”??
Those have been over-ridden by nanny state laws.
It’s no longer a free country in many states.
http://www.cnn.com/2016/02/22/politics/john-kasich-increased-media-attention/ The quote is on CNN. I assume the big government liberal really said this.
Personally, I would have baked the cake for the perverts. I would have done a good job if they hired me. And I would have charged them triple to make up for dealing with something I found disgusting (I used to charge democrats triple, when I was willing to consult for them at all). That is my personal choice because, to me, baking a cake does not constitute participating in their parody of a sacred sacrament.
However, Kasich is fatally wrong on this question. It’s not about what I would choose to do or what he would choose to do. This is about our God-given individual right to the free exercise of our religion - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in all areas of our lives. By arguing against protecting the God-given rights enshrined in the Constitution, Kasich is proving that my previous conclusion about him was right, as was my reasoning. Kasich does not value either the literal words of the Constitution or the idea of natural rights.
So to Kasich if you want to own a business you must be willing to forego your religious convictions. As I recall the bakery owners didn’t refuse to sell a simple cake they refused to decorate that cake to glorify homosexuality. That is a big difference.
Yep, no way should this man be considered for VP or any higher office.
If a black guy goes into a restaurant and orders a cup of coffee and a doughnut and the restaurant owner refuses to serve the guy because of his “religious convictions”, that’s against the law in every state.
How is this different?
Back in the early ‘80’s I took a course in business law. I was taught that no one can be compelled to perform without a contract...and there is no contract until there is a meeting of the minds .
This is why, if you value your religious and other freedoms, you don’t vote for “compassionate conservatism” RINOs like Kasich. You vote for Cruz.
Trump kaisich both tell Christians do your jobs!
The refusal is not based on the fact thst they are gay. They are taking part in an event that is against their faith.
Kasich is one dumb cookie. President of the High School Student Council is about his upper limit.
A $135,000 fine certainly violates the prohibition against excessive fines in the Constitution.
Kasich SUICIDE watch ping!
