We the people have responded--to the disbelief and chagrin of the elites: "We love America, we think it is great, and you can take your global utopia and shove it where the sun don't shine!" God bless America!
Trumpâs no conservative anâ I donât care. Doo-da, doo-da. Trumpâs no conservative anâ I donât care. Oh de doo-dah day. Gonna run all night; gonna run all day. Trumpâs no conservative anâ I donât care. Votinâ Trump anyway.
To the tune of âCamptown Races/Ladies,â Stephen Foster (1826-1864) (Note: also works with âTrumpâs not a liberalâ¦.â)
Trump is a philosophically unmoored political opportunist who would trash the broad conservative ideological consensus within the GOP in favor of a free-floating populism with strong-man overtones.âThe Editors âNational Reviewâ
I thought Reagan did a pretty good job.
Who should I believe instead? A lifetime govt employee?
Other than your say so, where is your evidence of that? Do you like Jeff Sessions? One of the most consistent, conservative, limited government people we have, and he's been a career politian. Or Mike Enzi, whose been a politician for 40 years.
It's fine to come up with a theory that you can't be a limited government conservative if you've spent a lot of time in government, but you need to check that theory against reality, and your theory fails that test.
It also is completely ducking the underlying issue of Trump's conservatism. I gave you two example of extremely liberal people who've spent their lives in private business. Unless you're going to claim that Soros and Lewis are more limited-government conservatives than Enzi or Sessions, your theory is useless. We have to look at the individual, and what the individual stands for. Focusing just on background, as you do, tells us nothing.
All I want from Trump is specifics. Is that really too much to demand of a guy without a track record in terms of policy?
But but but....heâll build a wall!
Yes, he will. And Mexico will pay for it, or their citizens that are living, working and not paying taxes here (illegally) will. So what is your point?

Wonder if that was before trump and his kid came out for touch and go amnesty.
Cruz has ruled out touch and go amnesty.
What departments has Trump said he would eliminate?
Then I owe you an apology
And that would happen because the GOPe gave up?

You don’t have to respond...what if Trump is a successful president?
You mean like getting suckered into voting for TPA? Or the Corker Amendment?
Apology accepted. My point is if Reagan was running today he maybe accused wrongly of being a RINO based on all these purity tests floating about.
(Waves hand wildly) “Pick me, pick me!”
Walker was taken out by the GOPe long before Iowa, in case you forgot.
How DARE you put facts on the table! You sir/madam are not FIT to be here on FR!!
Lord, I hope this doesn't need a sarcasm tag ....
Or you could vote for the 3 year neophyte senator who says what you want to hear, but has accomplished very little. I'll take the experienced businessman who clearly isn't the big government liberal that you portray. The big businessman who knows way more about the economy than a lawyer with no business experience. The big businessman who plays hardball and wins. All the rest of the candidates are just kitty kats.
That’s a very fair assessment. IMO, it comes down to a gut call. Remembering, of course, that the options are not Trump or some theoretical perfect candidate.
He was taken out by Trump as I explained in my last post to you. He was in the lead at the end of June, Trump passed him by the first debate on August 6th, and Walker faded quickly as Carson and Cruz rode on Trump’s outsider coattails.
Before Trump made waves, Walker was running as the D.C. outsider, and doing it quite successfully.
And that’s because conservative principles have been corrupted to fit whatever candidate is the most popular.
Reagan and Goldwater are the standard bearers. If one is a Conservative, one should judge the candidates by those principles put forth by them.
If you don’t have principles, you don’t have a anything to stand by.
