Comedian Jay Leno doesn't think Donald Trump will last in the GOP presidential race, and predicts he'll exit when his poll numbers drop.
You know he will, Leno said Wednesday of the GOP front-runner on MSNBC's "Morning Joe." "You know hes going to drop out. As soon as he drops in the polls, hes gone.
Leno admitted he appreciated the comedy material in the 2016 race, citing former Gov. Martin OMalley (D-Md.) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) as two White House hopefuls he finds amusing.
My favorite guy right now is a guy I talked about last night, Martin OMalley, Leno said. "Hes 2 percent in the polls. Hes been in the race for eight months and hes only tied with low-fat milk. Thats not good you need more.
Im enjoying Ted Cruz, Leno continued. "I dont want to say hes right wing, but he feels that [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu is not pro-Israel enough. That would be right.
I think its hilarious, Leno said of the presidential race. "Its very funny to watch. Im enjoying the whole spectacle of it.
Leno also praised former Gov. Jeb Bush (R-Fla.) and Gov. John Kasich (R-Ohio) for the way they present themselves on the campaign trail.
I still think he has the best chance, he said of Bush. "You cant even count him out. [He can] just stand off to the side and watch the others tear each other apart.
The guy I like is a guy from Ohio, Leno said, referencing Kasich. "He seems like a normal, decent guy.
Trump leads the GOP field nationally in multiple polls, despite never holding elected office.
They have ALL been so wrong...every one of the TV pundits and others. Jay Leno is not known for great prognostications. All these people are simply expressing their wishful thinking. Keep in mind there are 15 other candidates still in race. Most are career politicians. They have known the pundits for years and years. So what are they going to say...oh man, my candidate Ted Cruz is no good because he can’t cross 6%? Or Kasich is no good because he is at 4%? Of course not. The only hope they have is that Trump vanishes.
Only now they have stopped comparing Trump with Herman Cain & Michelle Bachmann. Because those two lasted at top of polls for what, a month each? Now they are comparing Trump with Giuliani. Because Rudi was at top of polls for a very long time. But they conveniently ignore the differences. 1. Trump has better name recognition than Rudi ever had 2. Trump does not depend on rich donors who deserted Rudi as soon as McCain overtook him 3. Most important...Was Rudi ever good at giving speeches like Trump is doing? Did he ever pull in 20,000 energized people cheering like crazy like Trump at so many venues?
As a minor bundler for Cruz, I get to see internal polls every Blue Moon, and you’re right.
Leno should tell jokes on how many boys attend a Barry Diller pool party.
Well, no.
You sum up my thoughts exactly. I don’t think Trump stays in either and, well ... what you said about the others.
I just judge from my extended family. They aren’t very political, they certainly aren’t very ideologically pure. But they love Trump.
I tell them about Cruz and their eyes glaze over because they aren’t that interested in details when it comes to politics. They want someone who isn’t afraid to shake things up and they think he’ll do it. They don’t know what specifically he’ll do but backing down is one of the things they’re sure he won’t do.
“If the Trump is going to drop out, why is he ahead of anyone else?”
That is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside of an enigma.
Jay.....shut up and play cars.
Good analysis.
I think Trump is in it to win it because I really believe he’s put all aside because he loves this country. I would hope that even if there is a temporary setback that his reason for getting into this to begin with would “trump” his displeasure in not being ahead for a time, but would persevere through it.
What Trump really should say to the media when asked about this is, “IT’S IRRELEVANT, I’m ahead. Next question.” I think it’s a ploy, a distractor, and crafty way to put doubts in his mind or distract him.
How I hate the MSM.
Did you hear he said, she said, they said, he said, she said, they heard, he heard, she heard, he said, she said they said....
Good grief!
Ok cool your jets. This was not Leno’s position or belief.
Leno was mocking the Washington beltway crowd of journalists and MSNBC commentators. Trump dropping out has been their fall-back position for so long that Leno was making fun of it.
He had that Leno twinkle in his eye when he said it to the very journalists on the ‘Morning Joe’ set who have been proclaiming Trump’s eventual withdrawal.
It seemed more serious when he said that of the republican choices he thought Jeb would prevail and that it was his personal choice.
So give Leno a break. He was tweaking the libs.
Well, I certainly hope Trump stays in. There’s no one else and until some state somewhere shows the guts to say “NO!!!” to the feds, he’s all we got going.
You his agent?
The guy I like is a guy from Ohio, Leno said, referencing Kasich. “He seems like a normal, decent guy.
That statement will serve as a reference point for Leno. He reaches out and picks one of the losers to stay safe.
When I think of Leno and serious politics, I think Schwarzenegger.
We know how that turned out.
RINO
When the votes are in, everyone will see that the silent majority has voted for Trump. Cruz can be VP and Carson can head medical folks, Carly...out to lunch....Biden...looney farm...Hildabeast incarcerated.
BA
Jay was never good at math. He can’t wrap his head around just how big of a number Trump is holding on to.
Leno? Is that the guy with the 150 some odd cars who acts like Jerry Seinfeld?
Gee. I didn’t know Leno was a comedian.
I stopped watching the ‘Tonight’ Show after Jack Parr retired.
The guy I like is a guy from Ohio,... "He seems like a normal, decent guy.Doesn't even know his name.
