I’m assuming the plan is fit her with a laser close-in missile defense system at some point: I see the engines are rated by MW and not horsepower, so the electrical output is what’s important.
Kind of reminds me of the South’s Merrimack - if you squint real hard.
Certainly does.......laughing heartily..........
Where’s the gaydar dome?
There doesn’t appear to be a single window or porthole. I’m assuming the bridge and major control systems are situated amidships for protection.
Feather boas are now standard issue :-)
>>Where is that rail gun going to be installed!<<
It looks like it will be deployed with phasers and photon torpedoes!
That was my thought too. Looks like an updated version of the Civil War era USS Monitor.
i get the bad feeling we are way off track on naval strategy. the era of the surface ship, particularly carriers is over.
start of next big war will be like the start of WW2, most navies thought the era of big gun warship was the way to go. 60 minutes over pearl harbor changed that.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It looks light it might be very effective...the Monitor, or was it the Merrimac, that utilized the same design with success. (assuming that deflecting the bullet is advantageous)
deflecting bullets and radar, of course.
Didn’t say it might not be effective just that is was ugly. LOL! ;-)
Ugly like a Bayliner sailboat? Now THAT’s ugly.
The platform is floating now.
The railgun technology isn't quite ready (but it's close).
Eventually there will be a re-fit so that the ship really has a railgun. At the moment, it has two advanced gun systems which perform a very creditable land attack function.
And it's got a lot of missiles.
And it's very stealthy.
The first of a new kind of ship, there will no doubt be many changes in ship design after it is deployed. I expect they will learn a lot.
A rubber boat with rag heads on the outboard and a half ton of high explosives while it gives a good will visit to some god awful country and kablueeee
Beat you by over a minute!
Gotta be fast on FR! :)
Easy to score a powerful direct hit on the side of that ship. I would not want to be rammed by that ship, however.
