I’m assuming the plan is fit her with a laser close-in missile defense system at some point: I see the engines are rated by MW and not horsepower, so the electrical output is what’s important.

Kind of reminds me of the South’s Merrimack - if you squint real hard.

There doesn’t appear to be a single window or porthole. I’m assuming the bridge and major control systems are situated amidships for protection.

It looks like it will be deployed with phasers and photon torpedoes!

That was my thought too. Looks like an updated version of the Civil War era USS Monitor.

i agree, the Chinese will launch 500 hypersonic missiles at once. i doubt there is a defense.
i get the bad feeling we are way off track on naval strategy. the era of the surface ship, particularly carriers is over.
start of next big war will be like the start of WW2, most navies thought the era of big gun warship was the way to go. 60 minutes over pearl harbor changed that.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It looks light it might be very effective...the Monitor, or was it the Merrimac, that utilized the same design with success. (assuming that deflecting the bullet is advantageous)

It really was designed as a railgun platform. Massive electrical power output -- and like in Star Trek, the power can be freely diverted to where it is needed. You need speed? "All power to forward engines!" You want to bombard a coastal city? "All power to railgun!"
The platform is floating now.
The railgun technology isn't quite ready (but it's close).
Eventually there will be a re-fit so that the ship really has a railgun. At the moment, it has two advanced gun systems which perform a very creditable land attack function.
And it's got a lot of missiles.
And it's very stealthy.

The first of a new kind of ship, there will no doubt be many changes in ship design after it is deployed. I expect they will learn a lot.

Easy to score a powerful direct hit on the side of that ship. I would not want to be rammed by that ship, however.
