Last weekend I loaded Windows 10 on an old laptop I rarely use. I immediately noticed several privacy issues with new open windows (pun intended) for spying on what I do, where I go and what I say online.
After reading some to the reviews and discussions I think it's time to revert back to Windows 7 ASAP.
Thanks, but no thanks Microsoft! The police state is doing a fine job without any additional help from you and me.
I haven't turned the laptop on since I loaded Windows 10, but the next time I do, it will be for the sole purpose of uninstalling Windows 10.

Why would we join you? Installed W10 on a W7 and W8 laptops, working great. Opted out of data sharing, good to go.

I totally agree. Even worse is that (and you’ll note how distrustful of Microsquish I am ;’) I wouldn’t put it past them to install “dead switches” that users can push but don’t in fact do anything. That way it lures people into a false sense of comfort while allowing MS to continue spying on us.
They really deserve a closed-fist smackdown for this.
I am waiting for the R1 update. By then, we should pretty well know whether W10 is junk or the new messiah.
I have read about the privacy issues. Unless one specifically says ‘no’ on about a dozen pages of user-agreements, they are sending every keystroke to MS.
I know they have removed or hidden some of their programs. IE11 is hidden. Media Center is gone. I have some hardware and software that depend on those. Will the software/hardware work? Or is this ‘free’ upgrade going to cost me $$$$ for new software and hardware.
By the time R1 is out, I will decide then whether to go Win10 or stay with Win7. Win7 cost me a laser printer — no drivers for it — and several software programs that do not have modern equivalents.
Do you really understand what everything on your list does? Some of those options actually add the your secuty, some are tablet only, some are instrusive. Also, other OS’s and chrome are very intrusive as well as iPhone and Android phones. Best bet is assume anything you do electronically is not private.
LOL, might check in a with a psychiatrist. They deal with paranoia issues.

30 DAYS AFTER THE UPGRADE YOU CAN ROLL BACK.
Basically go to
1. Start -> Settings -> Update & Security -> Recovery.
2. Select "Go back to Windows 8.1", then "Get Started
3. You will be asked a couple of questions about rolling back, then it the restore begins.
The restore was fairly quick AND restored all data.

I suppose I should have explained in my original post that I turned off all the "data collection options" without having researched the collection issues I'm now aware of. But then you just "assumed" that no one in your little world is competent but you and Bill Gates.

And by the way, I'm pretty impressed with the tech literacy of Freepers in general, their civility and their understanding of the world, politics, human nature, etc, etc.

go to privacy setting and turn everything off. Don’t throw out the baby with the bath water

Plus simple things like Edge browser were clunky, no calc (yes I know you can get on in the browser), start button has a semi-metro look.
Maybe I'm getting old, but I don't have time to reconfigure all this stuff and download a "calc" app from their store or whatever I'm supposed to do.
Not really seeing the advantage here....system is slower, not as productive from the user perspective, what's the big advantage for 10?

BTW, there is a free 3rd party app that will manage all your privacy settings for Windows 10. For those interested search and find.
If you have old spec hardware, try 32bit version. It shouldn’t be slower
New software with potentially undesirable or intrusive features should come with them switched off and give the customer the options to enable them later if they want.
I’m so glad I have waited to upgrade. I may wait indefinitely.
