A reporter covered the defensive shooting in Houston, where marksman, clerk, and brother of the owner, Dien Tu, shot and killed two of three armed robbers. The robbers were attempting to rob the store and had pistol whipped his brother in law, Brian. The reporter at khou.com gives this advice:
Police advise clerks in this situation to give in to the demands of robber.It is not clear if this is actual advice from police in the area, or vaguely remembered propaganda by the reporter. The store owner sees things a little differently, as reported in the next sentence:
The owner here said everyone is armed because of how dangerous the area is.
Do cops give in to criminals who flash a gun? Why not, if that's their advice to others? I'm thinking the reporter is shooting from the hip.From Sandy Wheeler Coryell

This was the right time. If everyone just gives over the money, there is no reason for the robbers to stop. If every employee is armed, they might think twice about robbing the place. And there should NEVER be just one employee in a store.

The owner says his store was robbed July 1 so he and his brother were prepared with guns to fight back. The clerk in that robbery was beaten so badly, he hasn't been able to return to work.I cannot help but wonder if Dien has been in some tight spots before. He acted quickly and decisively in a difficult situation. A previous story refers to Dien as "wearing a gun". Might it be that he was openly carrying in the store? No holster is evident on this image, taken four hours later. Open carry on one's property has always been legal in Texas.
Several decades ago I lived in a small CO town.
Two thugs came in to a liquor store, took the two clerks into the basement and murdered them both, after raping the female.
All the liquor store owners got together and made a pact that this would never happen again. Every clerk openly carried a holstered weapon. Shotguns were racked behind the counter.
The owners wouldn’t hire a clerk who refused to work armed. Cops trained new employees.
When I left, about five years later, there had been no more liquor store robberies.
Don’t know if the policy is still in effect.
Voter ID is nothing but a good thing. You have to have ID to buy booze, tobacco products, apply for taxpayer funded (government) assistance of any sort...so what is the problem with showing ID when you go vote? Other than it keeps the DemocRAT base from voting often and after death.
There have been cases where the store owner gave them what they wanted and still were shot.

That reminds me of living in conservative Bakersfield, California years ago. I recall seeing regularly on the news bank robberies in Los Angeles. When I asked someone if this had happened in Bakersfield, they said yes, several years before, but has not happened since.
Seems some guys from LA thought it was easy pickings in the hick town of Bakersfield, but after they robbed the bank, the sheriffs caught up with them but they all died in a ‘gunfight.’
Too bad for them, but no one mourned their loss as it sure made an improved environment in Bakersfield.
When things go south, they are #1.
Give them what they want? A short life with a violent death?
I will turn 58 in a few months. I graduated from high school at the age of 17 in June of 1975, two months after the fall of Saigon. This guy is around two years older than me and very well could have served in his home country at the end of the conflict.
That’s 2 preps who aint going to do it again no matter how much it hurts the lawyers, DAs and judges pockets.

I hope (yes, HOPE) that someday the reporter experiences this very same situation. Absolutely no sympathy for those wishing to deny others the right to defend themselves.

The boss put an old POS .32 in the drawer under the register and when the third robber found that he spazed out, just knew I was gonna die. He left without the money he was so scared.
I told the boss I would help them load everything in that station before I'd try to stop them @ $1.50 an hour.
Tu explained why he was already prepared for such a violent scenario, noting this was hardly the first time criminals have targeted the store.
“We got robbed from 12 days ago so we think maybe they come back,” he said.
Police have not released any evidence suggesting this quartet was responsible for the previous robbery. They do, however, think the suspects struck another business before attempting to rob the Super K.
Store owner Alden Tu lamented the level of risk that has become inherent in his line of work.
“It’s so danger[ous] for this kind of job,” he said, adding that “everybody have guns when they are in the store.”
