Ryan sweetens Fast Track trade deal pot
The American Thinker ^ | June 11, 2015 | Rick Moran

Hoping to attract more conservative support for the Fast Track trade authority deal that will probably be voted on today, Rep. Paul Ryan is trying to address some major concerns that conservatives have with the bill by offering an amendment that would prevent the president from negotiating any changes to US immigration or climate change law.

Wall Street Journal:

[.....WSJ quote.....]

I don't think these concerns are "far fetched" at all, and Ryan's amendment is both wise and prudent. The fact that Congress has a vote on whether to accept the final deal - just like they have an up or down vote on any Iran deal - doesn't matter. This is a president who has shown contempt for the congressional branch of government, and it's anyone's guess just how he would seek to circumvent Congress in the event of a negative vote on the trade bill.

Some on the right and left can't see past the cone of silence that has descended on just what's been negotiated so far in the Asian trade agreement. The secrecy surrounding the text troubles both good government liberals and suspicious conservatives, who have ample evidence of Obama duplicity to find the secrecy a warning sign of worse things to come.

But despite a bi-partisan push against the bill, it appears that the votes to pass it have been locked up.

“President Obama’s trade agenda survived a bad scare in the House on Thursday when the GOP rule governing debate for the package narrowly survived a 217-212 vote.

Thirty-four Republicans voted against the rule, while eight Democrats backed it.

A handful of pro-trade Democrats withheld their votes, watching the tally closely from the floor. Then, when it was apparent Republicans would not be able to pass the typically partisan measure on its own, they threw their votes in favor all at once.

The tight vote foreshadows the challenge GOP leaders will face Friday, when the House votes on two critical pieces of Obama’s trade agenda: fast-track authority and a separate bill offering help to workers displaced by trade. ......”

Let us know what is in it... and THEN maybe we can support any idiot who supports this bill. Until then, you are acting against our best interests, and it is plain for the world to see. Secret deals and secret laws and secret votes are the antithesis of Freedom. Any Republican who votes for this deal, even in an effort to make Obama look bad (well, worse), deserves to be voted out of office as quickly as possible.

“.......................The TAA program does not cover public-sector union members, whom Pelosi said had been covered in legislation proposed, but not approved, by the House in 2009.

More broadly, Pelosi complained that Democrats have been unable to push amendments to alter the trade bills, even as Republicans have included a host of provisions to address concerns of conservative lawmakers.

Granting GOP concessions to please members while blocking Democratic amendments was “making it harder for Democrats to support the bill,” she said.

Boehner dismissed the latest TAA argument as a “red herring,” giving no indication he was interested in addressing it.

He said he had bent over backwards to accommodate Democrats’ demands.

“I don’t understand where public workers would fall within the Trade Adjustment Assistance in any way, shape or form. And even when this was part of the law, no public sector worker ever qualified for these benefits, and it hasn’t been part of the law since 2011,” Boehner said in response to a question from The Hill.

“We’ve addressed all of the substantive and procedural concerns that she’s raised,” he continued. “And I’m hopeful that Democrats will do their part to get this over the line in the next day and half.”

Pelosi and Boehner struck a deal earlier this week to replace a funding offset for TAA that Democrats had opposed. On Wednesday night, they finalized a procedural compromise to seal that agreement.

Pelosi said she was “pleased” to be working with her GOP counterpart but said Boehner had not committed to addressing the public employee concern. Republican leaders have been reluctant to alter the actual text of the fast-track and worker assistance bills, since doing so would require sending them back to the Senate for passage.

“We’re working it,” she said. “We’ll see what happens, probably later in the day.”

Obama has been lobbying hard for the fast track legislation, which would help him finalize a massive 12-nation trade pact, the Trans Pacific Partnership.”

Ryan’s amendments are “lipstick on the pig”. There is no saving ObamaTrade without seriously, permanently alienating US citizens across the political spectrum.

Alienating them from what? Its not like we’ll ever have a choice other than the two Parties. Citizens United saw to that.

Obama-supporter, RomneyCARE-supporter Ryan
is a fool to think any American will ever trust
him or the lying-GOP again. EVER.

The odious treasonous GOP lied that they would remove
ObamaCARE and did not.

The accursed GOP lied that they would stop Obama,
and instead they have accelerated the death of America.

Did the GOP strip out the illegal-friendly section in this trade bill? If not, they have supported Obama’s amnesty and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s dream of cheap foreign labor. The loser is the American worker.

Alienating US citizens from government. Throughout history, that’s never worked out well for the ruling elite.

If they did strip that out, then why would Obama be in favor of this bill?

if this bill did anything to hinder Obama in anyway at all, why would Obama be for this bill passing?

Paul Ryan and the GOP are a bunch of ****ing liars.

Anyone voting for this thing is unfit for office.

Voting in laws you didn’t write, didn’t read, have no idea whats in it and don’t care to know...

This is the very definition of rule by decree. This is what a banana republic looks like.
