If I were to mirror the example of the delusional right-wing folks who have spent seven years creating apocalyptic fantasies about how Barack Obama is a communistic, Muslim Antichrist, I could probably manufacture some scary characterizations of the first announced candidate for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, Ted Cruz but I wont. Instead, I want to compare him favorably to his ideological soul mate, Sarah Palin, which may be even more scary..
Both the Texas senator and the former Alaska governor oppose abortion and same-sex marriage. They both want a smaller federal government and a more confrontational foreign policy. They want to repeal Obamacare and seal up the borders. Both are darlings of the tea party. Neither believes climate change is real. When they are in front of evangelical Christian crowds, they talk freely about salvation and prayer warriors. Both are so ambitious that they barely warmed the seats in their first major elected offices before jumping into campaigns at the highest level of national politics.
On just about everything, Cruz and Palin are on the same page. The difference is that the page Cruz reads from is in a law book, while Palins is in People magazine.
Palin is pretty much the embodiment of scatterbrained. Her off-the-cuff speeches are hilarious, nonsensical contortions of the English language. Her occasional stints as a pundit on Fox News are so daffy that even the sympathetic conservative hosts seem baffled by her blather. She is an attractive celebrity who is a good fit for a TV reality show, not for any position that would allow her to get her manicured fingers on the nuclear codes....

Yes, you knew this was coming. It is exactly why the media kept Palin alive in those oddly timed and out of the blue columns and coverage.
She is their standard and bar, to which they intended to whack and nail any conservative contender, in order to keep them from gaining top tier attention or traction in this nomination cycle. Lump them in with Sarah Palin and they immediately lose credibility with the electorate that makes the difference. Independents and cranky establishment Republicans.
Ted Cruz is leading in the conservative tier, so from the beginning the Left have no doubt polled the focus groups with some contortions to see what might work to turn him into Palin.
It will never work.

Pshaw. We don’t believe that Barky is the Antichrist.
He’s just going to be chief of staff for the Antichrist.
Exactly!!
They are such education snobs and just about as incestuous as it gets! There is education AND there is wisdom. They don’t have the latter....Sarah does.
Yeah...he was clearly in full tingle mode...
I think Ted’s a bright guy, but exactly how would we know Sarah has a low IQ? I’ve never seen paperwork on a test, you’ve never seen paperwork on a test, and I’d put it to you that Mr. Horsey never has, either.
How many “morons” get to be state governors of their own accord without family connections?
Or do it by beating the incumbent in the primary, then beating the incumbent’s predecessor in the general?
Sarah Palin is a UNIVERSE smarter than Odungo. He's just a puppet manipulated by Soros and darker entities. Has he ever had an original thought of his own?
And what is this happy horse manure about giving the editorial cartoonist a column, anyway? Cartoonists shouldn’t need columns to get their points across. That’s what the toon’s for.
Cruz is very smart in his way and so is Sarah in her way.
Seems Warren has a lot of the same skills that Sarah Palin has - of course Warren has the liberal prerequisite baggage of being a liar and cheat (Am Indian to get scholarships).
They have to smear Palin - it's the Alinsky way - it's all they know [red meat that their base eats up - personalizes their target negatively and angers the right].
Palin vs Warren now that would be something to see.
Ha!
I thought of that but didn’t know a pithy way to incorporate it - but you did!!
: )
Moving Frank Rich over to op-ed was silly, but still not as silly as this.
David Horsey is a Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist in the United States. His cartoons appeared in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer until December 2011 and in the Los Angeles Times currently and are syndicated to newspapers nationwide
