Trouble with Firefox and Java
me | 3/23/15 | lafroste

Posted on 03/23/2015 2:07:45 PM PDT by lafroste

Last week I had a very wierd computer glitch. It screwed up my text fonts, desktop icons and other stuff. At any rate I have gotten things mostly back under control, except for one thing. Java scripts refuse to run in Firefox. I have updated Firefox, I have update Java, I have gone through everywhere I can think of to enable Java script, but it still will not run. Does anyone have any suggestians on how to fix this or what the problem might be? It has me flummoxed. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Could be that an anti-Virus is blocking Java?

I don’t know much about computers. But I wouldn’t put coffee in your computer.

JavaScript and Java are two completely different technologies. Which one isn’t working?

I thought they were the same. What is happening is that java scripts are not running when they should. Is there a separate program I am unfamiliar with?

Have you tried this?

Follow these instructions to activate and enable JavaScript in Firefox.

PC & MAC
1.Open a new Firefox browser window or tab.
2.Copy the following then paste it into the Firefox address bar: about:config
3.Hit the Enter key.
4.On the following page, click the button: “I’ll be careful, I promise!”
5.Find the javascript.enabled row under the Preference Name heading.
6.Double-click anywhere within the javascript.enabled row to toggle the value from “False” to “True”.
7.Finally, refresh your browser.

JavaScript is executed by the Firefox browser itself - it is not a separate program or add-on. Freeper ‘smokey415’ has given you the correct instructions for enabling JavaScript in Firefox 23 and later.

I followed your directions, it was already set to true, so I set it false, then set it true and it still doesn’t work.

Go to settings and check whether or not javascript support is disabled.

It’s fixed. While no suggestions got me directly there, they led me to the answer. Thank you very much. As I said it was a weird glitch last week.

Occasionally, Firefox files will get corrupted and the only ‘fix’ is to uninstall and reinstall it from scratch.

IIRC, some later versions of Firefox had Javascript turned off by default.

I have so many conflicts with Firefox and Flash/Shockwave and PDF and Java and IE, etc., that I sometimes have to try several different browsers to get one to load the necessary data.

Updates to any of the above software can create more glitches than they resolve.
