A protective order can be effective. Especially if it is backed up with a gun. Protective orders are meant to be backed with armed force. The problem is that in many cases, armed agents of the state either arrive too late to be of help, or they cannot stay around long enough to provide effective protection. But when the armed force is in the form of the person who asked for the protective order, the protection is multiplied many times. In this case out of Indiana, the suspect, Jeffrey Frakes, had been released from jail the day before.
From wishtv.com:
According to the caller, Frakes had just been released from the Clay County Jail on December 14th, where he was serving a sentence for domestic violence against the 911 caller. The protective order by itself was not enough. An armed resident stopped the intrusion; the protective order was then effective as a means of legal protection, to put the offender back in jail.
The resident of the home said Frakes entered the home and threatened to kill them. That is when the 911 caller began firing shots at Frakes with a handgun.
(snip)
Police found Franks at his mothers home in Hymera, Ind. with two gun shot wounds.
Franks was taken to the Sullivan County hospital.
A Probable Cause Affidavit was signed, which charged Frakes with Invasion of Privacy, a violation of the protective order.
But if there is a restraining order against you, do not ignore it.
Scissors Beat Paper Bullets
protective order = mastrubation
Apparently, Mr Weingarten has never lived in the less affluent areas of rural Pinal County AZ. Here, it is;
“When seconds count, The sheriff is a half hour to an hour to never away.”
Protective orders offer some legal protection. If you have to use force, using it against someone who had a restraining order against them makes it more likely for the authorities and/or a jury to find you to be justified.
yup.
Teach your daughters to shoot because a restraining order is only a piece of paper.
Wife- Ruger SR9C
Daughter- Charter Arms .38 Undercover
Sister- Walther PPKS
Sister is scary good with any firearm.
Having lived through a noxious period of time being constantly harassed and threatened with physical assault by a deranged man who was displeased when I ended our extremely short relationship...and having followed all the supposedly sane and legal routes to stop it, I can state one true thing to anyone who encounters a maniac like the one I had to deal with (who had several “ins” with the court system)
Arm yourself, and discretely explain the situation to your own private network of good ole bad boys.
Then follow the ancient and basic, tried and true, 100% effective, SSS formula.
The primary problem with restraining orders, is that they are counterproductive. If they work to deter the threat, they were not really needed in the first place.
They rarely work when the threat is real and imminent.
IMNSHO.
Should the day never arrive when an officer shows up during a defensive gun fight
and just starts shooting at everybody without knowing who is who. Has this happened
before where an officer who shoots somebody defending themselves, during
the confrontation?
(tip o' the hat to Mr. Capone)
5 rules of a gun fight:
1) Gun beats no gun
2) Fast beats slow (he who shoots first, usually wins)
3) hit beats a miss (a .22 that hits is worth a lot more than a .44 that misses)
4) big holes beat small holes (as a general rule, go with the largest caliber that meets rules 1-3)
5) If one hole is good, two is better.
One may wonder why so many of this type perp (domestic violence) seem to have such a tight relationship with their mommies...
Force trumps paper as a practical matter.
This is a valuable lesson that everyone should learn at an early age.
That said, in this case, the paper represents the force of the state, even if it is slow and delayed.
whip it, whip it good.
