Bill Cosby has been revered for years as a comedian talking about his youthful experiences in a black neighborhood. His stories are peppered with descriptions of the quirky personalities of his friends, most notable among them, Fat Albert.
Why is Bill Cosby suddenly a bad guy? There has been extensive media coverage, over the past few days, with at least six women now accusing Bill Cosby of sex crimes...purported to happen a long time ago. It has become typical in these kinds of cases for one person to speak out then have several accusers pile on after "consulting their attorneys". The examples of Herman Cain and Clarence Thomas come to mind.
Coincidentally, a few things they all have in common is that their accusers waited years to make the claims and they are all, Cosby, Cain and Thomas, successful black men who have "broken the mold". As a matter of fact all three have been criticized by activists for not being black enough. Specifically, Cosby has made the speaking circuits for some time now, scolding the black community, particularly the youth, about the loss of values in their segment of society and has advocated reform.
It is possible that he is not person we saw publicly, but, the treatment he is receiving by the media is typical of the type that was used to try to destroy the reputation of Cain and Thomas when they were soaring with higher aspirations. That appears to be more than coincidence.
Constand had accused Cosby of drugging and sexually assaulting her in 2004.

When Cain stopped his run he also stepped most of the way out of the public spotlight. Not much reason for anybody to care anymore.

Well, he was more than an actor. He was a public figure, a standup comedian, a PhD holder who spoke often about educational and cultural issues.
This is more than a case of just someone who plays a good guy turning out to be a bad guy. His fame and influence extended well beyond his character work.
It did, see post 61 on the 2004 drugging/rape, and the DA's statement, and the 2006 settlement, and another woman filed a police report in 2000, and the rumors were always there.

Looks like he used his position in life to force himself on a lot of young white women. What else is new? Welcome to Hollywood. The guy is likely a sleazoid in real life like a lot of celebrities.
Bill Cosby isn't close to being a conservative.
He’s always been a bad guy, IMO. He’s a rabid Obama supporter who called Republicans racists for not standing at one of the cockroach’s SOTU speeches. Cosby said they were as bad as segregationists.
Your wife’s telling you about him isn’t unique, Lou Ferigno’s wife had an incident with him and just told Lou about it five years ago.
She went public this week, as has an actress from “One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest”, that he raped, that just came out this week.
With the 10 women or more that came forward during the 2005 case, I think the count is approaching 20.

I have no idea whether Cosby is a rapist, but I believe he has slept with hundreds, perhaps thousands, of women besides his wife. A public figure who acts this way eventually will have to pay the piper. Lefties may resent Cosby's pull-your-pants-up message to Black America, but it is naive to think anything political is behind the conflagration that is currently engulfing Cosby.
Not true in Cosby's case. These events were reported close to the time they happened, but it never stuck, or he paid off the accuser.

Speaking a truth about holders people culture?
Still think its probable Cosby did these things, and was protected by the Hollywood establishment and the black culture itself, same as many other high celebrity. After he spoke his mind on black culture, some began looking for ammo and eventually found it.
Where I have a problem with these accusations is not one of them was reported to cops in a timely enough manner to allow accumulation of evidence. One made noise about a supposed rape that occurred 30+ years ago, then the others started coming out of the woodwork and saying the same thing. Where are the police reports?
This thread is pondering the validity of the accusations. The dilema is there have been no known proof of the allegations and they are very late. You speak of facts as if there was already charges and conviction. We are considering FReepers opinions here. I don't know if he committed terrible crimes or not. I am not sure if I have an opinion one way or another yet.
Please don't go liberal tactic with the obvious emotional conviction of terrible crimes.
A republican DA is convinced that he did at least one of these, the woman that had 10 other women come forward to testify to being victims of him, and he settled out of court with her, for another woman in 2000 the police would not even use his name in her police report.

There are lots of people with a public persona of one thing and a personal mind, life and character of something completely different. Sex perverts/predators usually have an upstanding public persona which gets them access to victims with a misplaced trust. Often they have power over the victims to keep them quiet.
Sorry, I didn’t know he beat prostitutes. I had heard he chested but I didn’t know he was breaking all those laws too. Truth is, that does speak to the, um, sorry dude, CONTENT OF HIS CHARACTER. I have given him a “privacy” pass for cheating. I do think cheating speaks to the content of a man’s character to some extent. But not evil.
