Give Seattle Back to the Indians
Radix News ^ | October 13, 2014 | Editorial

If the people of Seattle hate Christopher Columbus so much, they should take steps to reverse his “crimes,” starting with their own city.

Last Monday the Seattle City Council unanimously passed a resolution declaring the second Monday of October Indigenous People’s Day....

Socialist councilmember Kshama Sawant, indigenous to Pune, India, was more forthcoming about the measure’s explicitly anti-Columbus content. She said they pressed for having Indigenous People’s Day on the same day as Columbus Day to draw attention to the fact that the Genoan explorer “played such a pivotal role in the worst genocide humankind has ever known.” She scoffed at the cultural sensitivities of people of Italian heritage, advising that if they were upset they should “celebrate Italian American social-justice activists rather than Columbus.”

One of Mr. Harrell’s applause lines was, “I make no excuses for this legislation.” Brave words, but does he have an excuse for living on land appropriated from the Indigenous People he set out to honor? If he wants to “fully recognize the evil of the past,” maybe he should spearhead legislation to give Seattle back to the region’s original inhabitants.

Well, his accidental “crash” actually amounted to something and was recorded.

The Viking attempt failed, was recorded in legend alone,[pretty much] basically. The Irish, the Chinese/Indonesian/Japanese and other Pacificers may have been here also but left no mark. Columbus gets the credit because his discovery spawned the colonization of the Americas. AND he was paisan...fergetaboutit.

Perfect trap - now he has to explain why he doesn't think he should vacate the land so the "savages" can control it again....It's funny how, if many liberal philosophies were followed, the same liberals would be unable to find a place to live/survive/exist.

The myth of a massive population of native Americans being exterminated by the likes of Columbus is high fantasy at best. Exceptional scholars have estimated the numbers as far less than initially stated by leftists who only wish to promote further antagonism. The actual, lower numbers are based on sound archeological evidence and recorded historical accounts. The left’s only response in confronting sound, irrefutable fact is “they killed them and hid the bodies! See! See!”.... Pathetic....

These people don’t give a damn about Indians.
They honestly believe they do care but actually their caring is just hatred for white culture, Christianity and capitalism - all while prospering in the world these ideas created.

If she had any integrity, she would leave this terrible land and go back to India.

“there was no reason for anyone to grant them rights which they had not conceived and were not using.... “

And yet they sold Manhattan to the white man none the less. They took value for something they themselves calculated they literally could not sell. Sounds kinda’ dishonest...

This “thing” sounds remarkably like a professor my son had in college. She was from India, a non-citizen, hated the USA, hated the constitution and bragged all the time that she voted Democrat in every election. As far as I know, she is still spewing her filth, despite numerous complaints about her (Including my letter to the US Attorney).

Liberal scholars come up with implausibly high figures for the pre-contact population of the present-day US. If you read the accounts of the earliest explorations by Narvaez, Cabeza de Vaca, Coronado, De Soto, etc., the land was not densely populated.

Apart from modern genocidal dictatorships like the Nazis and Communists, the Romans, the Mongols, and Tamerlane were far bloodier than any of the European nations which colonized the Americas.

Something that is rarely noticed is that, if Columbus had never tried to reach Asia by sailing West, the Western hemisphere would have become known to Europeans very soon anyway. Pedro Cabral discovered Brazil in 1500 by accident, when blown off course trying to sail from Portugal to India. Just 8 years after Columbus's first voyage.

Yes Seattle was a slaver, also a Christian, so that makes him highly offensive to the pagan, Wiccan and Muslim communities. He was probably straight as well.
