I had my Australian Shepard put down today. Her name was Sidney, as in the city in Australia. She was 15 Years 3 months.
She had had dementia for the last year or so. For the last year she hadn't been able to control her bowels. She could hold the pee, but number 2 just came when it was ready.
Today when I got home, she couldn't stand up. Her back legs just wouldn't work.
I took her outside and laid her in the nicest part of the grass. She looked peaceful as the wind blew her face.
On the way to the vet, my wife held her up so she could sniff the wind as we drove.
We are having her cremated and the place gives a nice teak box with the ashes, a nice poem, and a plaster of paris paw print. The vet asked what box I wanted. I didn't know they had different boxes, they didn't when her sister passed. They had the standard, or one with hearts. I picked the one with hearts, since my kids named her, the love dog.
She is now in heaven chasing bunnies with her sister (Somersby, also a city in Australia), who passed 3 years ago.
Your prayers are appreciated.
Tough, I know. We had a border collie 14 yrs. Even she knew it time to go.
Still miss watching her watch the kids coming home from school she loved
The neighborhood kids. Mrs has her ashes and will be buried with her.
Not me though LOL. Rainbow Bridge I am sure it’s posted here
I’m very sorry for your loss. Prayers up. We’ll all meet at the Rainbow Bridge.
Prayers up. Not looking forward to the day when we would have to put down one of our kittehs.
That picture mad me cry.
.
You, too? Actually, one of our neighbors thinks we have signs on our foreheads: “Suckers!”
I like the way you express yourself!
Prayers to you, Im going to hug my dog right now!
LOL!
Saddened by your loss. This brought tears as I recalled having to put our ‘Scout’ down some 15 years ago; also an Aussie. Age took it’s toll on our friend.

Aussies are such wonderful dogs. My son and his bride have adopted two Aussies....one is deaf and the other is blind. Goodness they are the sweetest critters on this planet... an *odd couple.*
I'm hoping these *children* will keep the newlyweds from having their own offspring for a bit.....we'll see what God's plan is.
I’m sure occam’s dog didn’t care how her name was spelled.
I am so sorry.
I truly understand that they are not pets. They are family.
I look down upon them and wonder. Is it better if I go before them, or should they go before myself?
I don't have an answer.
Yes it is.
Sorry should have clarified. Who was the guy?
Oh, you know. They’re out there.
I am sorry for your loss.
I lost my lab mix 1 month and 3 days ago, and ain’t ashamed to admit I cried like a kid.
He was a good, good dog.
Hold the line buddy, I’m coming one day soon.
Condolences from another Aussie owner. Fifteen was a good age. My Aussies are nine years old.
I understand. I lost my beloved cat on New Years Eve.
I’m just starting to heal.
Take care, friend. Bless you.
I have seen that particular post before. That dog looks just like our Sami, who is over 12.5 years old. It will kill my husband when her time comes. She has been with us since I was pregnant with our second (of four) children.
Eighteen months ago, we had to have our chocolate lab mix Joey put to sleep due to cancer. It was an incredibly difficult decision, and my husband didn’t want another dog after that. Then we noticed Sami becoming withdrawn and listless and he decided we needed to head to find her another packmate at the shelter. We soon brought home our beloved Tasha, a middle-aged brindle lab/boxer mix that came from a life of neglect. Sami became revitalized, and although she acts annoyed with Tasha’s playfulness at times, you can find them curled up together on the same bed quite often.
