What a way to repay a loyal four-year-old German shepherd who protected his family by chasing a bear away; his reward - the family surrenders the dog to New York City Animal Care and Control citing allergies as the reason they are signing Duke's death sentence.

I wish I can save him but our GS rescue is thousands of miles away.

Where is your rescue? Could he be flown in if enough money was raised?

MicroTech shampoo stopped my allergic reaction to our dog.

Someone will adopt him now that his story is out. I’d consider it myself but I’m all dogged up at present:)

The family should try Dyn-O-Vite.

I'm sorry it sounds like they are just heartless and lazy considering this: Shepherds Hope Rescue Glen Head, New York

That picture looks somehow very out of proportion, his head looks twice as large as it should compared to the rest of his body, in my opinion.

Dinovite. I hear it advertised on the radio all the time. Seriously though, does anyone have any experience with this stuff? We are thinking about trying it on one of our beagles. He scratches all the time, but the stuff isn’t cheap. If it works and makes him more comfortable we would gladly spend the money.

I think the poor dog has been mistreated and is cowering -- look at his tail, and it could be that it wasn't being fed well either.

Looking out the living room window one day, Johnny noticed two dogs copulating in the middle of the street. “Hey, Dad, what are those dogs doing?” Johnny inquired. Embarrassed, his father replied, “The dog in in the rear has sore paws, and the dog in front is helping him across the street.” To which Johnny replied, “Ain’t that like a friend, you try to give him a break, and he screws you every time!”

I was suggesting it for the family, not the dog:)

This case may sound heartless, but we once had to give up a dog because of my son’s allergies. He ended up in the hospital twice, the second time in Intensive Care. We did, however search and find a shelter that promises they will not put down any dogs entrusted to them, and we eventually met the new, adoptive owner.

I think that the dog looks much worse than just cowering, which I assumed from the git-go. His whole body just looks deformed, in comparison to his head. This is a normal German Shepard Dog-

beautiful dog. I hope he finds a couple of nice kids to spend the rest of his life with. I hope by now someone has called the local GSD rescue and they’ve bailed him out of jail.

We are in Orange County CA .

Logistically, it would be too much to get a dog over unless someone escorts the dog to OC.
It is much better to get a local rescue involved or someone to adopt in that area.
