Last night I listened to the new Reasonable Doubts podcast, which included a detailed account of the case of self-righteously Christian former major league baseball player and eventual sex abuse convict, Chad Curtis. The show is a gripping and revolting listen, and as usual the Doubtcasters bring to bear a lot of insight in the process both of telling the story and in analyzing it at the end. Doubtcaster Jeremy Beahan went to college at Cornerstone University where Chad Curtis was a prominent figure, earning his degree to go into high school coaching (where he would commit his sex crimes). Before even dealing with the Curtis case, they also critically analyze evangelical Christians’ warped and potentially destructive tendencies to pathologize masturbation as a matter of addiction. To heck with the media attention, does not mean we did not know about it. It’s always been around.
There is nothing “conservative” about sexual abuse, you have to have a very open mind to think that is okay.
This person probably won’t write about sexual abuse in the public schools. Just a thought.

I don’t think that is what the author meant. Conservative churches as in churches that lean to the right as apposed to those that lean to the left. Now you know this.

Gerry, all of you get off it okay? Here at Free Republic we have a “Home School Ping” just to let us know how much of cesspool our public schools have become. I am sure Metmom will back me up when I say it’s best to private school or home school your kids in this day and age.
Our schools suck. We know this and have known it for decades. It’s when our churches go downhill that we are really in trouble. We lose our kids in churches due to sexual abuse then we have really lost.
We had a recent experience with some rumors a person in authority at a religious affiliated educational institution. No clue if the rumors are true as we don’t know the people involved well. But we did hear the words, “How can we make this go away?” Makes me very suspicious now.

As it should! It should NOT be “How can we make this go away?” but “How do we get to the bottom of this?”.
I see no attacks.
The media has for decades pretended that the problem was isolated to within a single church, as though it didn’t exist inside the Public School system across the country.
So please explain what means “we’ve always known”?
Scanned the article and didn’t see anything unique to mega-churches.
