When a person has a disease that cannot be cured, do you think doctors should be allowed by law to end the patients life by some painless means if the patient and his or her family request it?
At first blush, the idea that a euthanasia should be allowed seems to follow a logic. If a person is suffering and wishes to end that suffering then who has the right to tell them no? It is their life, right? Only some troglodyte Bible thumper could possibly deny a person the simple mercy of ending their suffering. In this way it is no different than any other social innovation that has come down the pike over the past 60 or so years. It is a profound evil traveling under the guise of modernism and compassion.

“Dogs do not have eternal souls. A (hu)man is not an animal, He/she is made in the image of God, and to deny this takes away the unique value of ones life. If so, why not just kill any one that displeases you, or makes your life inconvenient?”
Our new FRiend (welcome right-wing agnostic) titles him/herself as agnostic, and so states either apathy or ignorance of God’s authority. Therefore the point of view of apathy/ignorance of God is his/her establishment case for law that affects the entire populace.
I can relate, but I cannot approve.
Let those in favor step right up to the plate!
Yes, you can draft a living will and a Do Not Resuscitate
(DNR). I advise everyone to do it for themselves and their loved ones.
Without a DNR, emergency rooms will do everything possible to keep someone alive. In the cast of my late wife, that meant reviving her after her heart had stopped for 45 minutes and then putting her into a medically-induced coma. She survived three more days. If she had lived, she almost certainly would have had brain damage and would have been institutionalized. I think it’s better now that she’s in heaven.
I’m sure this was a very broadly worded set of questions to allow the pollster to justify whatever answer fits his agenda.
Exactly. They constantly try to force medical professionals to commit abortion, are we to expect they won’t try to force them to commit murder on adults as well?
Who determines terminally ill and who can change that definition. Terminally ill can include dementia; over 65 w any disease; being liberal?
The questioning doesn’t go far enough. Ask the first question then next ask this question: Do you favor governing authorities allowing the ordering or intervening directly to direct the ordering of Euthanasia in complex medical cases over the wishes of the patient, family members, or court ordered or other legal surrogates?
You ask those two questions together in future polling and then you would have a better “nuanced” understanding of what people really think about euthanasia. Most folks think of euthanasia in terms of not keeping mom alive on machines and giving her pain meds to help suffering. Very few would support giving a drug that would end a life immediately and fewer still would support mandatory euthanasia!
It will start through the claim that this is what people want, then it will become mandatory. I have watched this government for a long time and this is how it works. Hitler’s ambitions live on.
...”Ill put it this way: If I were suffering so terribly that I wanted an end to lifeor if my loved one didI would not ask Big Brother in Washington for his opinion”...
Exactly!
Please help explain to this noob that Free Republic is pro-God, pro-life.
Exactly. Shades of 1930's Germany.

I don’t believe that pole.
Next thing ya`know they`ll be mandating it. Oh that`s right, OBozo care already kinda does that!
One of the great fears I have of our now government run health care system concerns how easy it would be for the bureaucrats to bring about the extermination of whole groups of people through “attrition,” using denial of the care they need to survive or through secret euthanasia. The denial of care has already been happening at the VA and that system is soon to be the one all except the politically connected and very rich elites will be under. The opportunity for evil is so vast that I try to keep myself from thinking about it. Last night I started reading a new book by Cheryl K. Chumley, POLICE STATE USA. More and more US Citizens are fearful that we have already crossed that line from which we cannot return and which is going to bring terrible suffering and grief upon this nation..All of it so unnecessary. However, that lust that some have for power and control over others will never end. Who said, “When good people do nothing, evil triumphs?” No truer words were ever spoken.
The 70% support number is bogus.
Isn’t it interesting that the liberal answer to everything is death (abortion, euthanasia, death panels, etc).
Hitler agrees.
If that percentage is accurate, here is my thought:
If people who think “euthanasia” really is “good death”, I am 100% sure than many of those who think so, would change their viewpoint if the truth was set out before them clearly.
