For the last 10 days, weve had something of a running debate among GOP columnists on the question of whether Republicans should de-emphasize social issues as part of a broader political strategy to appeal to more voters.
It began when Roger L. Simon penned a column titled How Social Conservatives are Saving Liberalism (Barely). Simon believes that social issues, specifically gay marriage, may keep Republicans from victory

WTF?
You pinged me first on this thread with a long quote about Palin. Why should I disagree with stuff unrelated?
To help you hijack this thread about Palin?
I don't connect Palin to Akin.
Why do you? Is this a victim worship thing?
Geesh, ask the democrats, too. As far as I can tell, it is them PUSHING the social issues that start all the ruckus in the first place:
1. Abortion: They demand they be allowed to kill their babies. They take it all the way to the Supreme Court, protest continuously and get prissy when WE object? They convolute it into a women’s’ right? AS if not being able to murder you unborn child is slavery of some kind? Protecting the unborn should be a liberal issue as well as conservative one. I simply cannot walk away from it.
2. Gay marriage. The Left has constantly moved the goal posts on this one. Only fifteen to twenty years ago or so, they were saying WE were absurd to even suggest they would want gays to be able to marry.
3. Affirmative Action. All we ever said was it doesn’t make blacks and other minorities equal by now screwing over some white people. It was the Liberal Icon MLK’s words that said a man should be judged for the content of his character, not his skin color, after all.
4. The bible, school prayer, praying at public events, Christmas displays in front of the town hall, and a thousand other very innocent practices and traditions across the fruited plain has been attacked, challenged it court and prohibited because of Leftist outrage. All we want to do is continue to honor our cultures and traditions. They called US bigots and religious suppressors, like a school prayer is some kind of torture from the Inquisition or forced to confess or die. They are the ones now who want to prevent us from saying a cheerful Merry Christmas for goodness sake!
No, social issues are the vanguard of the Leftist movement. We are right and correct to oppose their idiocies whenever THEY try to make them issues. To give them up and remain silent would mean they’ve won, period.
RE Aiken:
The ONLY answer that should come out of GOP mouths right now - in answer to ANY “social issue” question - is this:
Abortion: “Gee Mr Republican, where do you stand on “a woman’s right to choose?”
Answer: “At this point in time, how does THAT issue put people BACK to work, and repair the damage done to millions of people kicked off their healthcare plans thanks to the Democrats passing Obamacare, and fix the economy and healthcare insurance system that the Democrats ruined?”
Queer Marriage: “Gee Mr. Republican, where you stand on same -sex marriage...?
Answer: “At this point in time, how does THAT issue put people BACK to work, and repair the damage done to millions of people kicked off their healthcare plans thanks to the Democrats passing Obamacare, and fix the economy and healthcare insurance system that the Democrats ruined?”
Legalizing Wee: “Gee, Mr. Republican....”
Answer: See above... and see it over and over and over again until it penetrates thickened GOP skulls...
You CAN’T change ANYTHING if you don’t elected first.
What is that long "quote about Palin" that wasn't relevant to your Akin post?
Where is it in this post?
To: sickoflibs
Akin was Michele Bachmanns endorsement, not the GOPe, nor the tea party.
Akin was just a bad candidate that Palin and the tea party, and the establishment all tried to get out.

Conservative social issues should be championed, but it should not be part and parcel of politics. You can’t legislate morality, you can lead, you can put up practical and fact based barriers to bad behavior (ultra sound scans).
Our back is against the wall, it’s time to mock those who accuse us of pushing a social agenda. A politician should simply lead by example, and not force his views on others. I don’t like having liberalism forced on me and can appreciate their unease to some degree.
There is no real unease among liberals; it’s manufactured. The liberal politicians push the lie about conservatives wishing to foist a theocracy on the USA, when that is the very thing the Founding Fathers instituted protections against in the Constitutionand take note that said Constitution is the very thing the liberals are working to tear apart.
The liberals are the very things that they are warning aboutpushing state atheism on the USA. No country can survive their relativistic morass. Morality is needed. Remember that John Adams said that the US Constitution was made for a moral and religious people and is not suitable to the government of any other kind of peopleand if the USA is filled with immoral and irreligious people, it cannot survive because the Constitution as the Founders framed it guarantees freedom while others take it away.
Yes, the libs seem to project onto us their own flaws as ours. My wife does that too.
His rape comment was pseudo-scientific garbage. He made pro-lifers look bad and handed 6 more years to that awful witch Senator.
