In spite of their advances in education and the workforce anxiety disorders are replacing happiness for American women. Sexual liberation was supposed to bring equality for females that expected fulfillment with the freedom to pursue lust without expecting committed relationships.

Yes, this is why things like Slutwalks bother me. Also the underlying concept is irrational.
If these ladies are in a 12-Step, chances are there is some connection between the way they’ve managed their personal lives and whatever brought them to 12 Step, too. But at least they’re going to 12 Step and thats good.I’m pretty much a casualty of the sexual revolution. I never had an abortion but Ive done plenty of other stuff I’m not proud of. But now I’m in my fifties and have to make the best of life as it is. I would certainly advise young people not to do most of the things Ive done, but of course they don’t come to me for advice and I don’t blame them—I wouldn’t either. I was in my late 30s when a lot of this stuff dawned on me. Two books helped. One was Men and Marriage (sometimes called Sexual Suicide)by George Gilder. Every adult should read it. The other was The Rules by Ellen and Sherrie. Of course they came at it from a purely strategic place- -they weren’t telling women to delay gratification for moral reasons.
One of the disadvantages of having no children, stepchildren or grandchildren is the prospects for old age are grimmer. In my case since I have no siblings, I don’t have neices or nephews either. I know people who say “Well plenty of children don’t visit, don’t help, are abusive, etc.” But I think your odds are still better with children. This is is one of many reasons that the old ages of us baby boomers will be interesting, and not necessarily in a good way.
If young people , especially young women did ask me advice, I would say that one of the biggest places feminism went wrong is denying that men and women are different or should be different. The other is something clever I heard someplace-”They don’t make a condom for your heart.”
I think she means not somebody literally old enough to remember it but just closer to it historically.
That being said, my grandmothers were a little too old for the roaring 20s , but even if they hadn’t been, they probably wouldn’t have partaken. Though one of them smoked cigarettes they were extreme teetotallers and disapproved of Coca-Cola because they could remember when it had real cocaine in I guess. One of them died a year before I was born but I know these things from what others told me.
It’s hard to picture a recent sea change of this type as big as the sexual revolution. Remember that most of the flappers went on to marry and have families after a few years of being wild and most of the women doing mens’ work during World War II went back to regular life after the war. I suppose that the divorce rate spiked during the 20th century and the Pill was a big factor, or we were told it was. But now people aren’t even getting married. It seems like a big leap to me.
And when we thought it couldn’t get any worse, the government is be ing crueler and more oppressive. And never in my life have I seen such a wide cross-section of the population(not just bad guys!) fear and loathe law enforcement.
Pity, but abortions weren’t as ‘clean’ back then.
It’s not just the Pill, but something else. There’s some kind of sickness going on and it’s like there’s zero sanity anywhere.
“flappers went on to marry and have families after a few years of being wild and most of the women doing mens work during World War II went back to regular life after the war”
In all honesty, here is why I support women working:
Oprah begins at four and needs at five (where I live).
If women are at work at four and coming home at five, that means that women get home just as Oprah is ending.
Hence, they miss Oprah and Oprah’s ratings drop and her show dies off.
Women did the flapper fun, but they had their limits and a flapper back then was similar to being, well, I dunno. But it wasn’t something that threw women so off track that society became a huge mess.
“And never in my life have I seen such a wide cross-section of the population(not just bad guys!) fear and loathe law enforcement.”
Yeah I know; old friends of mine made jokes about law officers, but we NEVER wished them sincere harm and NEVER wold have dared mouth off to them. We never cheered the harm of a police officer and never dared sing songs about killing cops.
I really do agree; the thing is, that the entertainment industry has always been tarty, but it’s seeping into mainstream culture, via radical feminism. The minute actresses started using ‘female empowerment’ (Christina Aguilera started this I think), then it started to suck in the minds of kids who previously were entertained, but dismissive of entertainers.
Fans were fans, but they didn’t accept the values of the entertainer’s personal habits and lifestyle.
As for leaving decent men, these decent men are better off without these selfish women. The foolish women should have known gratitude (via knowing Christ) and I believe that these women didn’t think too much of their futures through. They stupidly thought that their lives would become more and more vivid and exciting without effort, but women who live glamorous lives rarely do it without working very hard and making a lot of sacrifices.
They do it because they can’t accept themselves. If they accepted themselves and were okay with their lives, they wouldn’t do these insane parades and demand that others accept it.
My mother passed away eight years ago at the age of seventy-five. My mother-in-law is still going strong at ninety-three. My late mother was and my mother-in-law is a devout Catholic. There is a marked difference between these women and their generation of women and much of the current one.
I know. It’s supposedly an anti-rape thing. I don’t know if they do it in your city. Anyway, the thinking is, “ change men so they won’t rape, we should be able to dress any way we want and pretty much do what we want. Anything else is blaming the victim.” But look at all the things people do to prevent their cars and the things in them from being stolen—alarms, The Club, various other precautions. And these women probably do too. They don’t say “change car theives and prowlers!”
The point I was making is that the disrespect used to largely undeserved. Now increasingly it’s seen as deserved. If course a lot of it has to do with surveillance (things like red light cameras)and the ever increasing list of laws. Nothing will corrupt the cops quicker than having to enforce a bunch of questionable laws, IMO.
Of course, you can only speak for yourself.
Uh, no, not from general observation and locker room banter (exaggerated or otherwise..) of “average” males. I probably should’ve clarified...”Yep, given us men are basically dogs, and prefer the lowest common denominator in behavior....especially if we think we can get away with it.” Better? As for myself, my position in the argument stated my practice and beliefs, that is, the exact opposite of the lowest common denominator. There, I’ve spoken for myself.
The sun rising and setting leaves women plagued with anxiety disorders. Pick any possible causal factor, eliminate it, and they will gravitate to something else to be anxious about. It’s part of the package.
At least with sex, there’s temporary relief from the anxiety. Endorphins are good :)
I see...so when you said "given us men are basically dogs, and prefer the lowest common denominator in behavior....especially if we think we can get away with it. you were excluding yourself...referring to "us" in the same sense as Obama when he says "We need to..."
I was including myself as part of the male gender of the human race in making that general statement because the temptation is always there, I’m not excluding myself per se. However, by the Grace of God, and a traditional moral upbringing, I’ve managed to avoid “behaving like a dog” when it comes to the treatment of women. Perhaps I will make it more clear next time. As for the POTUS, I would prefer not to be compared to this so-called man whose conscience appears badly formed (if formed at all) and unfortunately in a position of power and influence for the duration of his second term.
“I want to recall that this has been occurring in Russia(Soviet union) as well. The males are much less motivated (drink and party) while the women are leading in education and income.”
This has been happening in Russia for quite some time. Many Russian women go to Europe and the U.S. for graduate and professional school and to enjoy a better marriage market. I have a couple of friends who married Russian women a few years after the dissolution of the old Soviet Union.
I hope they are happy. I sense that professional Roosian women could be highly motivated to success, which might backfire for an average successful gringo. But I do not know from experience, other than dealing with high level Roosian men in other matters where strength is respected and weakness is not good.
That itself is frightening; people feel like you have to prove you’re worthy of respect and consideration, you aren’t given a chance the first time around.
Or they marry someone they meet on a similar level.
A lot of women need to stop planning on marrying up and start marrying those they are close to, who they work with.
It’s not just women, it’s the men. They no longer want to work all the time and not enjoy the fruits of their hard work. Why should they work and the wife enjoy it all?
As for men, most are opting out since they don’t want to be the sole provider anymore, mainly since it’s too heavy a burden for them to carry on their shoulders alone. In this economy, that goes double.
My mother passed away last year at the age of eighty.
The difference between her and her generation and the current crop of women is akin to comparing a Ferrari to a push mower.
