At a Common Core forum held Tuesday at Ward Melville High School, Beth Dimino ripped New York State Education Commissioner John King, calling for his “resignation and firing” and describing the Common Core curriculum as a form of “child abuse.” Dimino is a 16-year science teacher in the Comsewogue School District, and serves as President of the Port Jefferson Station Teachers Association (PJSTA).

Her speech, a short two-minute blast on the curriculum and its supporters received several outbursts of applause, as well as a standing ovation when she walked away from the podium.

Here is the transcript of her speech:

“... Ghostery says you have 17 trackers ...”

You seem knowledgeable about trackers - can trackers track any website they choose, or do they need invitation or permission to track the web site? (Many sites have a dozen or so tracking organizations; FreeRepublic just 1.) Also, do the trackers pay the websites they track? Thanks for the answer if you have the time.

“I think you got the point.”

The point is you’re a jackass? Got that one. It was obvious.

Common Core is much worse than the unions because it is ideological on its face. Pretending to be about science and math, they are instead channeling Jean-Jacques Roussea.

I’m not a tracking expert. But I do not want to be tracked and wish there was a law against it. Ghostery provides a list of trackers associated with a web site and I use it to turn off the trackers.

It is my understanding that the tracking companies pay the web site for letting the visitors to the site be tracked.

You’re right about FR having just one tracker. That’s Google Analytics. They grab non-identifiable info about your visit and produce statistical reports for web site owners about the visitors to their site. Google Analytics is the only tracker I’ve not turned off in Ghostery because the info collected is harmless.

And, FWIW, I’ve not heard back from Rusty about the trackers on his site.

From the video:

“I’m a teacher in the state of New York, and as such I am a mandated reporter. I am here to report that we are abusing children. There is now a “common core syndrome”. Children are being diagnosed by psychologists with a syndrome directly related to work they do in the classroom. If that’s not child abuse, I don’t know what is.”

I’d say that’s pretty revealing.

Yup. That's a classic blog pimp.

Personally, I don't mind people pimping blogs here, if they post the content with it. FR is read by enough people, that if your commentary are any good, you'll get traffic even if you post the entire entry here.

This kind of 'post a teaser then run' pimp needs to be just banned outright.

I'd say that too, but I still don't get the reference to the curriculum, which is what they are teaching, not not the "Children are being diagnosed by psychologists" issue referenced above.

Like I say, I'm just trying to understand the story, not to justify anything, and certainly not Common Core.

from the video/ transcript on the link:
There is now a “common core syndrome”.

A syndrome named for the curriculum/ program says it all.

Here is the transcript of her speech:

I’m a teacher in the state of New York, and as such I am a mandated reporter. And I’m here to report that we are abusing children in the state of New York. (Applause).

There is now a common core syndrome. Do you understand what that means? We have children that are being diagnosed by psychologists with a syndrome directly related to work they do in the class room. If that’s not child abuse, I don’t know what is.

I’m very happy Miss Tisch that you’re here, because I have fifty letters with me and I’ve mailed you three hundred others asking for Mr. King’s resignation and firing.

I have no problem being judged by anyone, I was judged as ‘highly effective’ last year as Dr. Joe Relick can attest to. Obviously Mr. King, you’re ineffective – 70% of the children in this state failed your test.

I appreciate, Mr. Flanagan, that you’re listening. But I’m not sure you’re hearing. So what I’m going to tell you is, because you’ve awoken the mommies you’re in trouble. What’s going to happen is that hundreds of thousands of mommies are going to fill out this form and they are going to have their children refuse to take the test, because the mommies in New York don’t abuse their children. And they’re not going to let bullies do that either. (Standing Ovation)

I’d be surprised if it was quite this bad. I don’t read NEA publications.
