And seething with anger at the prospect of being replaced with ‘Concrete’ !
The Blasphemy of steel reinforced ,iron slag enriched ,concrete is to much for the steel bridge spirit to handle. His wroth is brought down upon the hapless users of his 43metre high steel realm. BwHaaaaaaH!!!!

More of an Infinite Loop...OK...
Would that be a one sided loop or a two sided loop?

That’s nice. Where is device manager hidden?
(I uninstalled all HP software and downloaded a fresh copy of the driver, it’s working now. God knows what else I screwed up...)

Having given it much thought, it has to be two sided.
Single sided would have no width and be invisible.
Time for another cup of Tea.

At least it is now working, just don’t frighten it with loud noises or anything sudden.
XP is usually okay.
Device manager is located in control panel.

Ugh!
You need to do funny things to get Hp universal printer driver to work with XP.
Clicking print preview may let you print.
Alternately, click print and then see if you can specify the printer.
Sometimes it let me print that way.
Ultimately it is a matter of perseverance.
HP universal print driver does not play well with XP.
It works better with se7en and 8.
I hate on 8, so you know what I'm using.
Se7en.
I was forced to build the new machine earlier than I'd wanted.
The printer annoyances were the tip of the iceberg.
Some of the more recent at the time windoze updates were not applying properly and gumming up stuff.

"You are SUCH a stickler for details. Next thing we know, youll be writing another BOOK!" I've considered writing a book about my exploits trying to fix a combination of problems that have cropped up in my house.
The title would be "The Busy Corner".

Where is device manager hidden?First things first... you say it's working. Don't breathe on it... ;-) (Windoze senses when it is in the presence of a MacUser and intentionally with malice aforethought behaves altogether unlike an adult...)
For future reference should you need it, method 1) Start/my computer/View System Information (top left of screen)/hardware/device manager.
Method 2)Start/control panel/performance and maintenance/system/hardware/device manager...
I am assuming that you have the printer connected via usb.. If it's a network printer (all three of the laser printers here are on the network) there could be some other stuff going on (for instance, one of the printers would print fine via a usb connection but was very slow or non responsive via network. Turned out HP had a security setting turned on by default that I didn't know about that was blocking/'filtering' tcp/ip packets.. )
Only Darks has problems with XP... ;-) (Ask him how much he liked Vista - I avoided it like an obama..)

” Ask him how much he liked Vista”
*The response that followed curiously sounded akin to foaming and gargling combined with more than a little insane growling*
(Resuming human form)
Xp and HP universal printer do not play well together.
And no, do not breathe at the poor thing.
It will get insulted and summon system gremlins.
