This is new information received today from a FOIA request to the Social Security Administration by attorney Orly Taitz. She posted it on her website which Free Republic will not let you post a link to in the Source URL box above. Here is an excerpt from the press release she posted. The link to the press release in typed in below.
c. It is not clear, why did Ann Dunham apply for a change from Dunham to Dunham Obama in 1963, when she divorced Barack Obama senior. One would expect her to change her name in February 1961, when she reportedly married Obama, not in 1963, when she divorced him. This application for SSN change for Ann Dunham was released for the first time today.
d. It is not clear, why did Ann Dunham apply for yet another change of her SSN card in June of 1995. This June 1995 application for a change of the SSA card was released for the first time in SSA July 29 2013 letter to Taitz and was received today. This change was made only a few months before Ann Dunham passed away on November 7, 1995. Incidentally, November 7 happens to be the day when the Communist revolution in celebrated in Russia. Ann Dunham passed away at home with only her two children present. There was no attending physician at the time of her death, no autopsy by a coroner. Her remains were cremated and buried at sea. Typically there is a requirement for a permit for a burial at sea. There is no record of such permit ever being granted or requested.
We need to wait and see what Glenn Beck has to say about this....

The agent using the “Obama Identity” can’t keep the cover story straight.

What I find interesting is that the alleged mother and grandmother were cremated but the grandfather wasn’t.

Absolutely no surprise here. In fact, it should have been expected.
The formal divorce did somethings of use for mother and child.
a) Legitimized the child with a father. And not just some father - a famous (in Hawaii) Kenyan with royal family connections.
b) Legitimized an out of wedlock scandalous pregnancy and birth for the mother - and the family.
c) Got the ‘real’ father off the hook. Frank Marshall Davis? Malcolm X? Some random guy from Hawaii? Who knows, but with this legally created family (through the faux divorce) now formally documented someone was off the hook. I continue to think FMD comes into play but who knows.
Remember assuming any of the story is correct - mom and child were in Washington UNTIL Obama Sr. was GONE from Hawaii. AND the divorce was ONE WAY. i.e. Obama Senior never signed or acknowledged anything at all. The divorce records show a registered or certified mailing receipt. But nothing came back from Obama Senior. So he may not have even been a willing party to this action. Since he was gone from Hawaii never to return (until his presence was needed in December 1971) he was the perfect stand in father for the purposes.
Nothing shocking here at all. The divorce is still the first time there is apparently a valid legal record of a child (and mother) named Obama. With the happy family narrative from dreams blown apart this finding would fit the data points.
Change of name an no possible DNA matching from a cremated and scattered mother. In 1961 DNA testing was not at todays accuracy level.

Where did you get that information from?
It directly contradicts her obit in the Honolulu Advertiser, Nov. 14, 1995 issue, which refers to the decedent as "Stanley A. Dunham, also known as Ann Dunham Sutoro" and claims that she "died Tuesday in Straub Hospital."

I’d like to talk to Breitbart’s wife and ask her if it was customary for him to leave the house and that hour and go for a stroll for coffee (or something like that). Sounded fishy to me at the time.
people (woman mostly) often changed last names upon marriage, without filing any other “official” name change
woman have often changed last names, in one manner or another,
without filing such a change with social security - and the “magic” is social security will still receive FICA contributions from/for them regardless
so, the ss name change MAY not be a big deal
