Francisco Franco, grandfather, painter

The grandson of the Caudillo revealed in his book, "La naturaleza de Franco. Cuando mi abuelo era persona" that his famous grandfather, and, in my estimation, easily the greatest national leader of the 20th century, was also a painter.

"After dinner, granddad often would lock himself in the studio and paint. ... Francisco Franco was a loving grandfather, excellent companion in hunting and fishing, my teacher and my friend. When we were alone, fishing or sitting around the campfire, gradndad told me stories from his youth. They always began with the words 'When I was a regular man...'".

What do you think? I expected depth, that I do not find in the pictorial exercises of Hitler's and Churchill, and I found it. The hunting scenes in particular reveal a man who understands the tragedy that has befallen Europe, knows his brutal age and has the courage to fight through it; and at the same time his inner eye hasn't lost the tranquility of the soul that we detect in the beautiful pond scene.

Franco was not a professional artist: we see an uncertain line and awkward composition; the color seems to be a bit timid. But on the insight into his age and hours, I'll take his work over Dali's dull and hate-filled "Premonition" any time.

If you want to be on this right wing, monarchy, paleolibertarianism and nationalism ping list, but are not, please let me know. If you are on it and want to be off, also let me know.

Chevy Chase

“Good evening....today’s date is July 23rd and General Francisco Franco is still dead!”

And Chevy Chase’s career is still dead.

John Belushi pretty much spoiled it for the whole generation of drugs-are-cool-and-fun comedians.

Just another one dimensional one character leftist idiot, like Carrey.

Belushi had more talent in his pinky than Chevy Chase had.

I finalized my low opinion of Chevy Chase when he was a guest on the Tonight Show and did his usual upstaging routine when the next guest, Gallagher, was in the first seat speaking to Carson. Carson actually called him on it and Gallagher said, "It's OK Johnny. Chevy just hates to see anybody else being funny". The audience roared and applauded and you could practically see steam pouring out of Chase's ears. At that moment I knew he was a major league a**hole and haven't seen anything else since then to alter that opinion.

No real talent (unlike the rest of the original SNL crew). Just adolescent gimmicks and a limited repertoire at that.

With respect, the thread is not about Chevy Chase. Thank you.

Thanks for clearing that up-—I was very confused.

I read about Franco in “Leftism Revisited”-—about the Civil War, etc. Very interesting and a perspective that most people have never been exposed to-—since there is so much deception in American news/history revisionism-—agitprop-—since 1916 or so, when JP Morgan got control of all the major world “news” outlets.

I read your post from 2002 concerning the Inquisition and the thread that followed.

What, in your view, should we remember about Franco and how does that differ from the mainstream portrait?

Who knew?

We could guess. It is a rarity to see an intelligent face on the 20c. animal farm; he had one.

What about his son?

Franco knew he was not a monarch and he did not pretend to be. I do not know anything about his son, but a desire to see the son inherit his temporary office is misplaced, if that is what you imply.

However, I wish Franco prepared his nation better. Especially, the gross mistake of entering the EU should not have happened. In the end, the bear lost and the dogs won.

One simply cannot learn anything from the mainstream concept of 20th century as it is taught in schools.

Please ping me to your answer.

Full disclosure: my knowledge of the subject is sorely lacking.

I am always willing to learn.
