Mark Steyn warns of 'serious secession movements' if drift toward socialism not reversed
Daily Caller ^ | May 16, 2013 | Jeff Poor

Radio host Dennis Miller and National Review columnist Mark Steyn considered Thursday the possible outcomes if the United States continues down the path of socialism.

If socialism became the prevailing governing philosophy, Miller speculated, escaping it wouldn’t require a move to the Australian outback. Instead he suggested heading for the state of Texas, because it would be the first place to push back against it.

“If I ever do flee, don’t think fleeing has to involve you going over to Alice Springs or something,” Miller said. “I’m going to Texas because that’ll be the first place that pushes back. They’re not going down the tubes with this country if this country decides to go down the tubes. I really think I’d head for Texas.”

"A newly formed Republic of Texas (doesn’t THAT sound nice) could form 1,000,000 man militia in about 24 hours after the first call for volunteers went out, and that would just be form the outsiders coming in to help out."

And there wouldn't be a metrosexual nor a queer among them.

Apples and oranges. Those that have been here (and some LEGAL immigrants) are mostly small business owners and tend to be pretty conservative.

Even the smaller and smaller group of illegals actually interested in working are reliably liberal.

The GOP-e are idiots than can't tell the difference. If we can keep them from giving Texas back to Mexico then it is just a matter of time until the federal government starts to look a lot like Detroit anyway. At that point there won't be anything left to secede from.

Who knows about the transients, but Texans are Texans like Marines are Marines.

Texas has its own electricity grid, its own oil and natural gas, ports, etc. If any states could make a go of it, Texas and Alaska are the ones to make it work. I wish they’d try it.

"The percentage of Texans of Hispanic descent is on the rise. Do these folks, as a group, subscribe to traditional Texan values (rugged individualism, mistrust of big government, etc.)?"

The ones I know (since '84) are Texans first, and have no sympathy for amnesty. Strong, church going, pro-life, salt of the earth patriots.

“One strong indication would be a state’s utter rejection of Obamacare mandates on the state citizens and accepting the consequences of no federal funding.”

Texas has rejected the move into more Medicaid and taking federal money. We’re not doing it and Hussein is pissed. Tough cookie.

12 gun rights bills are making their way through the Texas senate and all but one was just a voice vote for passage in the Texas house. A regular vote was taken for the other one and it passed, too.

At the rate Texas is going, you might find yourself a new Texas citizen one of these days, if I can ever find a spot that is not humid or windy.

Republicans rule in Texas and that includes law enforcement and the Texas Guard and Texas Rangers. Wetbacks cannot vote here. Mexican Americans who are citizens do vote.

Because Republicans are in the majority, our elections are better run than Democrat majority states.

I was on the state party election day committee to handle complaints from counties across the state and we did that and were able to stop anything that was fouled up at polling places. Except for brief trips to my kitchen and bathroom, I didn't leave my chair on election day. We had a computer set up that worked very well as each on the committee could see what another suggested to fix problems and each could add anything they thought was necessary. I had worked so many elections and taught election law across the state, that I was sure the problems were getting solved correctly.

Even in Austin, when the election judge would be a Democrat, the alternate judge was a Republican and that Republican could contact us if anything went wrong.

On election night, at central counting in every county, the state law my husband wrote had to be followed. I knew central counting in every county was to be done right following the law my husband wrote.

I must have taught several thousand Republican election judges and they keep that instruction going to the next judge and the next.

Come on to Texas and vote.

US starts to fracture. South Carolina declares Obamacare illegal.

Saturday, May 11, 2013 4:51

South Carolina House passes bill making ‘Obamacare’ implementation a crime
Thursday, May 2, 2013
The South Carolina state House passed a bill Wednesday that declares President Obama’s Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act to be “null and void,” and criminalizes its implementation.
The state’s Freedom of Health Care Protection Act intends to “prohibit certain individuals from enforcing or attempting to enforce such unconstitutional laws; and to establish criminal penalties and civil liability for violating this article.”
The measure permits the state Attorney General, with reasonable cause, “to restrain by temporary restraining order, temporary injunction, or permanent injunction” any person who is believed to be causing harm to any person or business with the implementation of Obamacare.
Earlier this year in her state of the state address, Gov. Nikki Haley said that South Carolina does not want and cannot afford the president’s plan, “not now, not ever.”

If I wasn’t born a Texan, my first choice would be South Carolina. I just love that place. True sister states.

Establishing residency is no easy task.

Easy enough.

A handful of sand and grassburrs with your mother's blood from your birth on Texas soil is enough to convince most JPs. ;)

Of course, I write this about 10 meters from where I was born. Plenty of sand and grassburrs.

I sent a pregnant wife home to Texas twice so that our babies wouldn't be born in New Mexico.

But what about Obamacare? Looks Like S Carolina has at least passed a House Bill declaring it illegal. http://beforeitsnews.com/eu/2013/05/us-starts-to-fracture-south-carolina-declares-obamacare-illegal-2520478.html

What are the chances of this getting through S.C. Senate and to the Governor for signature?
