For decades I have heard gun owners claim that the government would never be able to confiscate our firearms because the government would lose too many men. The implication being, of course, that gun owners would actively resist confiscation, even to the point of shooting back. But I believe this thinking is outdated and doesnt align very well with reality. But before you tell me how big your honor guard in Hell will be when that day comes, lets think about how the government could really do it.
Suppose, for the sake of argument, the government bans all civilian possession of firearms at the end of this month. Congress passes a total ban and the President cuts his own re-election throat by signing it. Gun owners get some grace period to turn them in, even beyond the deadline, without being charged with a crime. If we use Australia and Britain as examples there will still be a significant number of firearms that are not turned in. Some estimates put the Australian turn-in at less than 25% and the British faired only about 28%. But Australians and the British have long been used to obeying almost every gun control law. Not so the Americans. When laws are passed that we dont like, we bite. We scratch. We vote. So here we sit after the guns have been collected and the amnesties have run out. Now what? Send out the personnel carriers, swat and shock troops to seize the guns from those militia terrorists who refused to turn them in? Dont be silly.
The government has lots of records about you. If you purchased a firearm since 1968, chances are that they have some record of it somewhere....

#5 can’t happen
What proof do I need? I tell them I sold them all years ago when it was legal to sell privately with no forms or checks. I don't think many judges will issue warrants based on "we think he's lying." It would only take a few cases of warrants issued, nothing found to slap the judges signing them in the face real hard. How hard would it be to sucker them into searching some homes with no guns in them?
Get real. Lots of criminals have weapons that are illegal for them to have in places where guns are banned. Cops aren't doing your scenario on them.
Because it's dangerous for the cops.

I can see this happening, if we didn’t have a Second Amendment and many people willing to fight confiscation laws, and every step leading up to it, in the courts.
The author is from California; probably a liberal pretending to be conservative so he could post on the pro-gun website to push fear mongering and anti-gun propaganda
If it is the time to bury it, more than likely it is the time to use it...
From my dead cold hands
MOLON LABE.
If there isn’t a revolution BEFORE that point then any idiot who hasn’t fled the country with his family will deserve that fate.
Here’s one way they confiscate: by having registration and background checks in place and a complicit media who prints the names of gun owners, it just became counterproductive to own registered guns.
I’m not sure if “deserve” is too strong a word but they would still be mighty stupid to stay.
Nothing will go through Congress or the White House. Instead all these totalitarian regulatory agencies will fire up and make rules and come for guns.
Don’t assume LEOs will confiscate your guns without compunction. Many LEOs will probably be on your side and refuse to confiscate them. In fact they may turn on their masters...: )
And use it against those who passed the laws and those who declared them constitutional.
Oops! They were all at a friend's house. Now I sue them into oblivion for property damage, emotional trauma and file against the judge for issuing a warrant without good cause. Rinse and repeat X100.
Not one of mine has paper on it,not even my ammo!
Some will comply, and others will resist through civil disobedience; I think more than a few will resist by other means - and that could get messy. The big question is what will the bulk of law enforcement and the military do?
The US SC has pretty well defined the 2nd and applied it to the states through the 14th Amendment. There are more than a few courts that would issue injunctions against confiscation.
Total gun confiscation in the US will not be attempted - at least by anyone who is sane.
I got it:
We nibble our pop tarts in the shape of a gun! This will scare the heck out of them.
And THAT is why I love this place.
