While the title says it all, I thought a goodbye was in order.
While I've been a FReeper for well over a decade, I must declare that it is time to part ways. While I have the greatest respect for a great many of you, the days where I can in good conscience remain silent about the issues that set me apart from the rest of FReeperdom have past. For clarity, or perhaps catharsis, I'm not entirely certain which, I'll lay them out on the table an call the ZOT down upon myself.
The racism: I just can't handle it anymore. FR has become increasingly racist since President Obama took office, and enforcement has dropped. Now, not a single crime can be reported with an "amish" comment, and I've yet to see a post express embarrassment or shame when lo and behold sometimes the perpetrators turned out to be lily white.
Homosexuality: FR is on the wrong side of history on this one, and I'll just leave it at that.
Mostly though, it's the hate. More and more posts reference violent solutions to political disagreements. Some subtly couched, others make no pretense. I wouldn't be surprised at all if I read in the morning paper that a FReeper murdered a federal bureaucrat or a federal judge.
I've learned so much, from so many of you, and for that I'm grateful. I genuinely and truly wish all of you well, and sincerely hope you all live out the rest of your lives in happiness.

OK Mr. (Ms.) BBell, post some examples of "freepers" with a "Latino surname" who have been considered as a "illegal gang banger."
I don’t consider someone who complains about “religious fanatics” on Free Republic to be much of a conservative. The so called religious fanatics simply believe in the Bible, and don’t harm you or yours in any way whatsoever. The so called religious fanatics think sodomy is unnatural and immoral and don’t like people who treat killing babies like it’s no big deal. Are those the religious fanatics you’re complaining about?
Belief in God, marriage, family, and morality was mainstream not too long ago. Back then, sexual immorality, divorce, greed and envy were considered social ills, deserving of opprobrium, and rightly so. Our society is rapidly degenerating. If it comes down to picking sides as the degenerates wreak havoc on America, you can put me in the religious fanatic camp anytime.
Zot bookmark.
Farewell.
While I can’t agree with you, I do wish you the best of luck. God bless.
Considering the direction this country is taking, you just might get your wish one day....
Nowhere Man: “...American version of a Taliban.”
You really need to get over this particular phobia of yours. I say phobia because your fear isn’t rational. There’s no Christian Taliban waiting in the wings ready to swoop in and steal your porn collection, bust down your door while you’re fornicating with your girlfriend, or getting ready to seize your weed (not saying you engage in any of the above, just making a point). We aren’t even out to ban alcohol (which was at least done legally/constitutionally and popularly imposed—gotta give ‘em credit for that).
The Christian “Taliban” at the point simply wants to keep the sodomists from indoctrinating our children and taking over our institutions. We also want to protect and preserve life, whether it’s old or very young. The blue laws aren’t coming back, my FRiend. Relax!
CGTGOC: “I cant tell you how offensive it is to me to have homosexual rights equated with civil rights.”
I’m not a person of color, but it offends me, too. One is an immutable genetic characteristic. The other is a choice. The temptation itself is not a choice, but it’s definitely a choice to act on the temptation.
A man is a man regardless of the color of his skin. FReegards!
RE “amish” comments.
Actually I see these comments as resistance against the left/media always shoving down our throats the lie that the larger proportion of crimes in this country are by NOT by blacks and almost all terrorists are NOT muslim. Out of reverse racism we’re supposed to pretend the truth isn’t the truth. And we’re supposed to ignore this for fear of being called “racist”. The amish comments are a sly way of speaking the truth, something the OP claims to believe is most important i.e. if Stalin loved kittens or Lincoln fried ants.
I have no problem with the amish comments.
I don’t know if I can agree with you that Free Republic hasn’t changed. The discussions seem much more grim these days, probably because conservatives are literally under siege by the media, government, and schools. You can even include members of our own party in that list! It is grim. Nevertheless, I don’t like the comments about rebellion. Those posts are inappropriate. No conservative should ever fire the first shot! We are nowhere even remotely close to that!
BBell: “However here at FR anyone with a Latino surname is considered most likely an illegal gang banger.”
That is complete BS!
Racism? Baloney. Wrong side of history on homosexuality? Way off. You just took a long walk off a short pier, into the deep end.
No really I am series.
kevao: “Considering the direction this country is taking, you just might get your wish one day....”
How right you are, FRiend. Sad, but true.
You know it could racist trolls posting their comments.
Come, my brothers and sisters, and witness the self-immolation of one who embraces sodomy!
If you scroll through Melas’ posting history you will see that he/she/it essentially admits to being an atheist.
Homosexuality: FR is on the wrong side of history on this one, and Ill just leave it at that.
LOL!! I guess he means we should all become gay?? WTF!!?? Bu-Bye.
If anybody knows any FR alternatives that aren’t so militaristic, violent, xenophobic, etc., I’d be glad to know what they are.
I would be a millionaire if I had a nickel every time I found a self-identified Christian on FR who......
-advocated violence and vigilante tactics
-criticized “social gospel” Christians for advocating using the state to bring about Christian charity via the welfare state while simultaneously advocating using the state to bring about Christian morals by banning homosexual acts
-was happy bombs were dropped
-advocated unprovoked war
-did not follow Romans 12:18
-treated the US military as if it were inherently moral and put troops almost on par with Christ (no, I’m not exaggerating, I’ve seen this)
-used racial epithets (not legitimate criticisms of certain nationalities or ethnic groups, but actual racial epithets like “sand monkeys”)
-equated America with God’s kingdom and acted as if America and the Body of Christ were one and the same
-advocated rebellion against the legitimate US government (I’m not necessarily talking about advocating peaceful secession, but actual armed rebellion)
-advocated not paying taxes (I believe Jesus had something to say about that)
-responded to homosexuals and single mothers with hatred instead of compassion (where do we have license to hate on sinners, being sinners ourselves?)
-thought that government endorsements of religion were a good thing, despite history’s lesson that this harms religion
I’d be a billionaire if I had a nickel every time a self-identified “small government” advocate called for....
-more war
-more military spending, more domestic spying (less of this now that Dems control the WH)
-harsher policing and longer sentences for non-violent crimes
-an expansion of the failed war on drugs
-more power to cops (who are always right and never wrong or corrupt or abusive with their power) and less power for defendants (even though this often includes the innocent, not just the guilty, believe it or not)
-more corporal punishment in schools
I’d be a trillionaire if I had a nickel every time a “free market capitalist” on FR....
-called for higher tariffs
-called for import restrictions
-called for import bans
-thought that buying foreign goods “sent money overseas” and hurt the nation’s economy
-called me a traitor for advocating free trade
-said that we need higher military spending to help the economy, but that higher government spending is hurting the economy
-confused Keynesianism with socialism, socialism with communism, communism with Marxism, Democrats with Marxists, etc.,and yet we’re supposed to be the side that understands economics.
