GOP returns Mitt Romney "gifts"
Politico ^ | 11/15/12 | Ginger Gibson

A handful of prominent Republicans criticized Mitt Romney for his disparaging remarks about President Barack Obama’s “gifts” to core constituencies, saying that it was the wrong message to send voters as the party tries to rebuild itself after a bruising defeat. “I don’t think it’s helpful,” Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad told POLITICO at the Republican Governors Association conference on Thursday. “I guess my feeling is that we need to turn the page, and we need to focus on the future and not make excuses for the past.”

Damn right. Romney was spot-on about this, regardless of what “other leading Republicans” have to say about it.

It became a matter of fighting against a pandering incumbent who had and used the full strength of governmental resources to get reelected.

I heard those ads directed at young voters here in Virginia, offering yet more federal student grants... “all we`re asking is for wealthy Americans to contribute more to invest in your educational future. How does that sound?”

On this point, Romney is right. The parasite class will always gravitate to whomever throws them the juiciest bait.

Romney’s right and the RINO’s are showing that they cannot handle to truth.

And what do you call Romney? Are you claiming that Romney is not a RINO? Basically the RINOs are just trying to out do the big RINO.

“So, Rubio and Jindal, the supposed future of this party, seem content to go into full throttle pander mode to ensure future election prospects.”

Well said. We need to look to someone who isn't going to pander and act like Democrats. These two have been crossed off my list.

I just wish Romney had said more things like this during the campaign and prominently featured that woman with her free Obamaphone (which actually came from the taxpayers of this country, not Obama).

That last debate was as if Romney was in complete agreement with everything Obama said. It was weird. Romney's speaks the truth after the election and the Republicans are running away from the truth.

So this is what 1 party rule looks like. I hate it.

Me too! The GOP needs to be sent to the nursing home. The tactics are old and out of date. There needs to be a new party created - someone on another had a great name - The Real Conservative Party. IMO, their MAIN issue should always be the economy and fiscal responsibility. Granted there are 4 other poles to the tent, but the center pole needs to be those two tppics. I don't care what color, gender, orgin, religion, sexual orientation you are, but if you share our values you are in. I know I am going to get flamed for that last one, but I don't care - I want to win back the White House in a bad way, and being a little flexible but firm it can be done.

This election worked out perfectly to Washington DC’s ends. Every advance of the left accrues more power to DC...and then the Oligarghy takes turns playing with the new batch of toys....of which ObamaCare is merely one of the latest games they get to enjoy. Rubio and Jindal merely see their turn coming unless We the People get up on our high horse and do something about it!

Ensuring a “fair vote” in some of the ghetto communities....why would anybody in DC wanna spend time DOING THAT?!!! Hard work, potentially dangerous...and besides could interfere with the whole game!!!

This problem is clearly only solved by We the People out in Flyover Country. If we’re tired of the DC “two party” illusion and want a real system....the hard work starts locally. BTW the left has been there almost 100 years now...and uprooting them will take some effort.

Spoken like a true executive who doesn't want, or doesn't know how, to fix any real problem. Yes, by all means let's "move on"... or "forward," if you will.

While still superior to the truly awful Tom Vilsack (currently Obama's Ag Secretary... despite not knowing anything about farming) and Chet "Lumpy Rutherford" Culver, Terry Branstad has never been particularly averse to "free s**t." Without the influx of federal - i.e., other people's - money, Iowa would see depopulation until there were nothing but government workers, landed Junkers, enough low-wage farm supply and roadbuilding workers to service same, and the bones of our ancestors.

Unpleasant to contemplate, but on the other hand, it would eliminate most of the diversity imports from Illinois.

“What I have is not an entitlement - I paid for my social security and I pay for Medicare every month.”

Sorry to disillusion you, but they are both “entitlements”.
We were sold a bill of goods to pay into a ponzi scheme.
You have no “defined benefits” chiseled into stone with any of those programs, neither do I.

But where you really fell down was buying into the class warfare arguments in the first place.
Romney may not have articulated it well, but nowhere did he propose taking away social programs or entitlements from people that earned it. His and Ryans plans are the only ones that have articulated a solution to continue funding them.
Obamas plan is to destroy the economy and accelerate the insolvency of the country by overwhelming it with dependency.
Classic Allinsky.

His 47% comments, if you bothered to read what he said was that his policies and strategy were not going to appeal to the 47% that have become dependent on government handouts.
And I hate to break it to you, but S.S. and Medicare have become handouts, because they were redefined as such by Congress.

I disagree. As they grow older, if they have good uinformation in their minds, it will be called into rememberance.

We simplyu have to divise a plan for getting the info out that shows rationally why becoming dependent is bad for their future and how they are being used.

The alternative is to either accept this situation, do nothing, start handing out stuff ourselves and become like the enemy, or attack the very people we need to get to wake up and vote differently. None of those options will work.

Waiting for the train wreck is something I am not wiling to sit by and just let happen because those consequences will be 1) in determinant and 2) awful beyond belief for our own.

It may end up being the only real option left...ie. it may be too late to avoid...but I am not going there without a fight to aoid it if at all possible while maintiaing our principles.

Sadly, at the 2012 "crossroads of history," "conservatives" turned left.

And then, quite predictably, lost.

Sure hope they've learned something and that they'll come on back to the crossroads.

Why yes, let’s just keep the gravy train running ‘cuz WE’LL know how to make it better. Tell me Rubio, where does the gov’t get the power to pass out the taxpayers $$??? Can you tell me how that’s charity when it’s not YOUR $$ to give??

They’re all lost. Notice there’s no more talk of ending a dept., cutting any laws/regulations. Only, we’ll do it better.

The GOP dog-washers make me sick

Unfort. you only paid TAXES all those years (FICA and Medicaid). There was, is, will be no promised benefit from the gov’t that can not be rescinded.

Choosing to live your life on the promise of gov’t is a fools errand. There is no legal nor moral authority to enslave any generation for the lies from gov’t.

You want(ed) a defined benefit, there should have been riots to pass the SS privatization.
