I'm living in a suburb of Chicago, Ill-Noise right now, but might be getting a job offer from Rogers (Bentonville) Arkansas (yes it's associated with Wally World HQ but as a "permanent contractor" i.e. I'd be a perm employee of a contract house). After months with nothing this might be the second of two doors that are opening to me, the first in Madison, WI.
Well, from what little I can look up, Arkansas despite its redneck reputation is Democrat. Democrat Mike Beebe is the gov, versus the Republican Walker of Wisconsin. No idea what the AR legislature is like.
Would a conservative hi tech redneck have a hard time in Arkansas? I actually liked the idea of Arkansas a little better than Wisconsin for this originally Kentucky boy, but the Rats (and the fact that this place gave rise to the Clintoons) are a turn off.
***...is that how they get around dryness, by being a club?***
I live in the wettest dry county in Arkansas! Our local city fathers about had apoplexy when two private clubs went in on the West side of the county.
Yup . But I went to college in a dry town in western pa so I was used to the b double e double r uns....
Loved how everybody waved on the country roads... You do that in parts of ny and you get the finger back...
Dude.
The South is NOT repeat NOT backwards.
LOL
I use regular old Comcast. It’s fast enough that porn downloads effortlessly. LOL
Not only did Tucker resign, he did a stretch in prison!
Just stay away from the urban centers, especially West Memphis and Little Rock, you’ll be fine.
I officed in Little Rock for a couple years. Generally, warm, typical polite Southerners, nice folks.
If you’re a sportsman, you’ll love eastern AR. I understand the bird hunting is great!
And, you’re not to far from the casinos in MS.
As for myself. I’m going to move back to Texas!
Yep. There is, however, a measure on the ballot in November to make Benton county a wet county. Hopefully, it passes and puts an end to all the nonsense.
Watch Deliverance before you decide to move. (Ya,I know the story takes place in Georgia.)
..........though I have to admit, anywhere is an improvement over Chicago.
You should have courtesy pinged Laz on this.
“Additionally, arkansas is the only state mentioned in the Bible.”
That would be somewhere in Revelation, right? :)
The prettiest drive wifey and I ever took was a hook off I-30 headed home to Kalifornia, to Murfreesboro and the Crater of Diamonds State Park.
Heh....my brother lives along Lake Lanier there and runs a home-brewing store. I tried to get him into watching "Duck Dynasty", but he reported back that he just can't get into it, because the redneck cast reminds him too much of most of his customer base.
Stay up north. You might be able to do some good there. No matter how well meaning they are, yankees always tend to eff things up when they settle in the south

I’m originally from the Oklahoma City area, but right now I’m living in Arkansas in a small town with Fort Smith the closest city. Here’s my take:
* Politics is mixed. The town where I’m living seems to be Democrat. I bet most Arkansas Democrats tend to be Dems because of tradition and because they have bought into the “rich Republican” stereotype. They aren’t like the radical NE liberals.
* Churches are full. In my small town the youth fill the churches. There’s not much else to do other than hang out at the McDonald’s.
* Internet is fast, at least where I am. If you move to a place where CenturyLink is a provider ask about their Business DSL. It’s not cheap but it’s fast.
* Business climate: Ok, so far. But I would feel better if I was on the Oklahoma side of the border. Oklahoma is more solidly Republican-controlled. Over time maybe Arkansas will move that way?
* Beauty: Arkansas is a PRETTY STATE. Downright gorgeous... and this is coming from an Okie.
I’ve been thinking of moving back to Oklahoma nearer to Tulsa, or maybe to the mountains of North Carolina (if there weren’t so many libs there!). Can anyone with experience with NE Oklahoma and Arkansas compare the two?
what’s Arkansas like politically?
The following come to mind
Bill & Hillary Clinton
Mike Huckabee

Gool luck and enjoy your relocation.
Communistic Redneckland!
Tulsa very liberal.
Are you in Van Buren or Alma?
