With the 2012 Doomsday date quickly approaching, anxiety and fear are gripping more and more people across the globe. According to a recent survey of individuals in over twenty countries, 15% of people worldwide believe the end of the world as we know it will happen in our lifetime.
“Whether they think it will come to an end through the hands of God, or a natural disaster or a political event, whatever the reason, one in seven thinks the end of the world is coming,” said Keren Gottfried, research manager at Ipsos Global Public Affairs which conducted the poll for Reuters.
“Perhaps it is because of the media attention coming from one interpretation of the Mayan prophecy that states the world ‘ends’ in our calendar year 2012,” Gottfried said, adding that some Mayan scholars have disputed the interpretation.

Got me! I didn’t see anything that was “offensive.”
I remember part of the post was about how there has be proven research that show’s that plane that crash have a higher precentage of people who miss the flaigh than planes that don’t that the little voice in the back of your head is something you should listen to. I also talked about my own experience of putting around in the morning when I should be leaving for work (which isn’t like me) and then finding that a major accident had occured somewhere on my route to work.
For some, it’s the Mayan calendar thing, or planet X, or pandemic, or financial collapse, or the Tribulation.
Or, something as seemingly benign as LOSS OF INTERNET.
Think about it...
Preppers will survive.

Back in the mid-60s high school, “plonking” was a nice way of saying ‘screwing’, or the f-word. Maybe it’s got a new definition these days?
I had programs that would strip out certain posters from mail-lists and newsgroups that I subscribed to, back in the 300 baud days.

Forget the fact that it is totally useless in any PC platform today. It would make a fromidable projectile...if propelled by sufficient velocity. And it would freak out and kill a zombie...so I'm keepin' it.
Wow, a trip down memory lane.
I started with an ‘82 IBM PS2/50 (microchannel), w/ 2 40k floppy HD-drives (still have it in the basement), DOS2, and accessed CompuServe BBS w/ 9600 baud modem.

Started with paper tape, and upgraded to mag tape and then the 8" floppies. Also upgraded to a Z80 card. With an extra 4K of memory. That cost real money.
We have it good today with cheap and fast computers.
And I am grateful.

We do have it easy today. That PS2/50 cost me $4500, which was (and still is) a lot of bucks in '82.

This is what sharing thoughts and experiences on these threads is all about.
Just saw a 50 pound bag of rice at Sam's Club for less than $18. A big 7 pound #10 can of Showboat Pork and Beans is $3.78. A #10 can of Tomato Sauce is still only $2.67. Tins of Vienna Sausage are still only 50 cents in most local stores. All of these products can last in storage for years.
In my area someone usually has pasta on sale every week They are buy-one-get-one so it comes out to about 70 cents a pound.
We have had two occasions where popular selling, national brand pasta we brought home developed weevils. They spread fast and are tough to get rid of. So it is advisable to put pasta in the freezer for a while if you are going to keep it for any length of time. Freefing kills the eggs (if any) before they can hatch. We like to freeze it for at least 10 days.
Your comments on water point out the most obvious, least expensive and one of the most important steps any prepper should take. Without water in an emergency you won't live long enough for food to become a problem.
Aren’t the Mods supposed to explain if you ask them?
And it doesn't require adding structure to the foundation of the house.
